We had corresponded for about 6 weeks via email before we met.  He lived in NY and I lived in MD.  He flew down to meet me and I guess that was our first official date.  I picked him up at the airport and we went to the inner harbor (Baltimore) and had lunch at Johnny Rockets.  After lunch we went to the ESPN Zone to play games.  It was the perfect first date for us because we were able to relax and spend time getting to know each other while playing games.

That afternoon we came back to my house and played board games and watched a movie.  He stayed here and I went to stay at my parents' house.  The next day we went to church and then went to my sister's house for dinner before we headed back to the airport.

I was so nervous leading up to the weekend because I had never talked to him on the phone or met him and I was not sure how I would make it through the weekend with this total stranger.  But we got along so well and it was a great weekend.  And you all know the rest of the story.  Smile

FI and I had been friends for about six months, and had actually been "dating" for about a week before we went on our first date.  It was really casual.  We went to Starbuck's, got coffee, chatted, and then went back to my house to watch TV and eat dinner.  It was nice and relaxed.

We actually went to junior high together but were not friends, really.  We knew each other but didn't hang out and ran with very different circles.  Then we went to different high schools.

In college we bumped into each other in an AOL chat room (remember those?!).  We started talking and became online and phone friends.  He was dating someone and I was engaged to my boyfriend of 5 years, who was a train wreck of a future husband.  At some point I remember talking to H on the phone and thinking "this is the kind of guy I need to be with in the future.  Why am I not with him?"  By March of 2000 we'd both broken it off with our sigificant others and we had our first date on April 1, 2000.

I met him at the bowling alley where my "brother" (good friend who lived with us off and on in high school) worked.  My parents were out of town and I wasn't comfortable going out with him without someone who loved me meeting him first.  Bro gave me the thumbs up, so H and I went for a walk aroun the neighborhood.  We stopped at a school and played on the swings.  I can't remember what else we did.  I do remember that it was really awkward and he was sooooo shy.  After I got home we talked on the phone for 6 hours :-P

It's hard to believe that was over 11 years ago now!

FI and met through a mutual "friend" (my neighbor worked with him at the time). My neighbor thought that we would be a "perfect fit". lol. She started talking to FI about me (they were at work together) and she started texting me about him, she even sent me a picture of him... and showed a pic of me to him. He thought i was sooo cute... but i still wasnt that sure. I was totally against it.. until she mentioned that we go to the same church. lol so then I gave her permission to give him my number and he called me a few days later. We talked on the phone for about 2 weeks before our first date.

On our first date we went out to a restaurant and just talked and laughed. It was really nice how at east i felt with him. After that we met up with my neighbor and played pool (totally not my scene and i was not having to much fun) so then we left and took a drive to a really pretty river trail. We talked for hours and hours! After our first date we were together pretty much ever since. lol.

    (:

For our "second first date" (after he returned from ministry school) we went to that same restaurant. (:

DH and I met in Germany as study abroad students.  We just got some ice cream and walked around this old university town we were in.  We talked for five hours, which is impressive considering that we were speaking in German!

Lisa, did you and DH meet online?  Common friends?

My best friend from college gave him my email address.  She is married to his cousin.  She had tried for years to set me up with her BIL but I was not at all interested.  When she realized that she was not going to be able to talk me into that, she had to think of someone else she could set me up with.  She gave Joe my email address without asking first.  (If she had asked, I probably would have said no and I'd probably still be single!)

I know a lot of people meet online and have very successful relationships but I was so scared to date someone I didn't know.  The only thing that really helped was that I trusted my friend a lot and I felt like she wouldn't set me up with a psycho!

DH and I met through a mutual friend. We played pick-up basketball once or twice a week for a couple of years while he was going to college where I lived. After he moved back home (three hours away), he decided he missed "the basketball crowd" and asked if I wanted to join him for a last minute movie one night when he was back in town. I had already rented one, so I invited him to my place instead. We watched "Coraline" and had poached eggs on toast. :) We had the exact same reactions to the movie, and I think we both knew even then that there was something kindred between us.

FI and I had known each other for a little over three years (our dad's work together) when we went on our first date. We grabbed coffee (he knew the way to my heart: good coffee!), and went for a walk by the river. Best "first date" I've ever had!

My FI and I met our freshman year of high school. We didn't hang out till our Junior year (he had been dating someone for 2 years). When they broke up we instantly became friends because we were working on a chapel service together for school. It wasn't until the week that we graduated high school that we went on our first date. We went and had sushi (yum!) and saw the movie Date Night. Then we went on a drive and went to an undeveloped neighborhood and sat in the bed of the truck and talked for hours. It was a great first date!

FI was my brother-in-law's roommate in college.  When my bro-in-law and sister graduated from college, FI was at their graduation party at my aunt's house, so we kind of met then, and became facebook friends.  A few weeks later my sister and bro-in-law abruptly got jobs in Thailand, and FI helped them move a TV over ty my aunt's house.  Somewhere in there the strange combo of my bro-in-law and aunt decided FI and I would make a good couple.  We started talking a bit on facebook, and then texting and calling.  Our first date he picked me up at my grandpa's where all of my family was for the weekend, we went to a  park and had dessert and watched the sunset, then he came back and came in with me and talked with my family.  We ended up having 2 more dates that weekend, and here we are engaged about a year later!

Clint friended me on Facebook to start.  I didn't recognize his name so I accepted, then posted on his wall, something along the lines of I don't recognize your name but I'm sorry if we've met and I forgot who you are.  If we haven't met it's nice to meet you lol.  He wrote back and said no, we didn't know each other, but it was nice to meet me too.  That was September 13, 2009.  He text me that night with a chain mail and I had already saved his number in my phone but I pretended not to know who it was and asked who it was.  From there we talked over text for 5 days and he came and picked me up at my house and met my mom and sister.  They told me, "If you break up with this one we'll disown you and adopt him."  Lol.   I had never heard his voice but I instantly loved it, and I had told him "Around here we hug."  and bet him I'd hug him when he got here - and I did.  :P  We walked to the truck and he asked if he should get my door and I said, "Yeah, let's see what you've got."  :)  We went to his house and he had to fix something on his dad's truck, then we rode the fourwheeler and just talked out in the pasture.  I was FREEZING and he kept offering to go get me a jacket but I kept refusing, just wanting to talk.  We finally went inside and watched a little tv and we kept talking and getting closer.  Finally our noses touched and he kissed me.  It was the fastest kiss on the lips I've ever had in my life and he FREAKED out apologizing saying he shouldn't do that and he was so sorry and he's never kissed anyone on the first date.  I told him I hadn't either, but it's ok I'm not upset.  I told him he should try it again and he did finally.  When we got in the truck to leave he said I could sit in the middle, so I did, and he put his arm around me.  :)  Then he sang, "Someday" by Joe Nichols and to this day I smile when I hear it.  He kissed me again when he was dropping me off, and my mom came out to look at his truck so I had to go in.  :(  But it was absolutely the sweetest first date ever and thankfully we never broke up, and my mom and sister never disowned me.  :P

FI and I met at work. We worked for the same company in the same building but in two totally unrelated areas. Everyone shared the same cafeteria and one day he asked if he could sit with me. We chatted like that at lunch for a while before I agreed to go on a date with him. I met him in NYC and we went to Little Italy for this big feast that's held every september. We walked through the whole festival, he won me a teddy bear in one of the games (which I still have and treasure) and we just talked and laughed. We've been laughing together ever since September 2008.
There's only 1 way 2 say those 3 words and that's what I'll do... I love you Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Uhh.. you know, I can't remember. FI and I never really "dated". We went places but we were simply "together" from the beginning. We have known each other for 10 years and been together for 5 1/2 of them. I can't remember our first time out together though. :(

FI and I work in the same school district. We got hired the same year and I would see him at new teacher meetings and in-services. We had been in the same conversation a few times with a group of teachers, but never really talked directly. I thought he was really good looking and I wanted to find out if he had a GF and also just find out what kind of person he was, etc. So one day I knew he would be at a meeting I had to go to, so I made sure I wore a cute outfit because I was planning on talking to him after the meeting. I worked up the courage and after the meeting I *conveniently* walked out at the same time as him and casually said, "hey, how's your class so far?" We ended up talking in the parking lot for an hour! We exchanged numbers because he wanted to borrow a study guide for a Praxis test I took. We started texting and calling each other and hung out once but I wasn't sure if he was just a nice, friendly colleague or if he was interested in me. Finally, the second time we hung out, I asked him and he said he had feelings and was interested! So then our first actual date came soon after. We just went to dinner at a nice restaurant. We had a great time and now we are about to get married! I know this story makes me look really aggressive, but I'm really not! I am glad I approached him though, because he is really professional and he probably would have never approached me because he really tried to separate work and his personal life. I guess God was working in me to bring us together!

FI saw me walking in the hall at the university and liked my hair (it's very long and curly).  he later saw me sitting in the cafeteria with one of his friends (who happened to be one of my best friends at the time) and came over so he could be introduced to me.

we were friends for a couple years (I had a BF).  the ex-BF and I broke up, and FI and I started hanging out more and more.  every Friday we went to Chipotle for lunch.

our first date (the first time!) was at Cheesecake Factory.  I was so nervous I couldn't eat all my food, so he finished it.  then we walked around the mall and held hands.  later that night, he asked me to be his girlfriend.  I was so surprised I said, "uh, tonight?".  he laughed and said, "no I guess we can start tomorrow if you want!"  and we kissed.  I actually kissed him!

we dated for a short time and then broke up.  we rekindled our friendship and both really wanted to date again, but he was too scared to ask me out.  so we went on "friend excursions" to IHOP.  klassy!  we acted like we were dating (going out all the time, going to his family things together) and he started trying to hold my hand again.  so one night we were leaving his aunt's house and we were at a stop sign, and I just leaned over and kissed him and then said, "well, I was tired of waiting on you to do it!  it seems I always have to initiate these things!"  he laughed, and we've been together since.

he told me later that he knew that if I would just give him one more chance, he would marry me.  and he is!

We'd know each other a little over a year when we started dating (two classes together spring of soph year).  I knew his roommate, so I started talking with both of them one day after mythology class.

Our first date was at the little restaraunt on campus.  I ordered fettecuni alfredo, but it had brocoli in it.  We'd spent quite a bit of time over the past month hanging out though.  apparently one of his lab mates kept encouraging him to pursue me.  Said roommate got a special shout-out at our wedding reception.

The DTR talk was the next week at a park in a gazebo, until bees ran us out.
