Rehearsal Dinner sites?

FI and I are having a tough time coming up with a short list for this. We've discussed doing a low-country boil in the backyard, but his dad and brother are allergic to shellfish (he still wanted to do it anyway! omg!) so that's out. We either want someplace close to Casa Feliz or someplace downtown, since most guests will be staying at the Embassy Suites or the Grand Bohemian. We just don't know the downtown restaurants very well.

Here are the parameters:
-Local flair (not Panera, Buca, or some other national chain)
-Can take a group of about 20
-Low-key but not grody
-Not a bar/party scene (probably... since we'll likely be doing the RD on a Thursday evening we don't want to compete with noisy crowds)

Thoughts? We've talked about doing it at Harmoni in College Park or Winnie's in Winter Park. More casual than that would be ok. I considered Crooked Bayou (I'm from New Orleans) but then I read that it's more of a bar scene at night.

The other idea is to do the rehearsal Friday morning (day of the wedding) and then have rehearsal breakfast somewhere. I don't know... is that kinda weird? Does that take away from the day somewhat? TIA!

Having it the day of would be too hectic for me personally. I don't.want you to stress yourself out over that. I can't think of any good places now but if I come across any, I will let you know.

Ceviche is downtown.  Its a tapas bar and they have flamenco dancers might be kind of different for your guests?

Panullos or 310 Park South would be nice.  We looked into 310.  They had a really nice menu and were very accomodating of the price we wanted to spend.  We ended up deciding Chez Vincent in their wine cellar b/c FIs family wanted something more formal than 310.

Thanks for the ideas! I've never been to Chez Vincent or 310 Park South or Harp and Celt so we'll have to check them out! :)

you could still do a back yard thing but maybe have it catered instead. Or, throw some steaks on the grill for the shellfish averse.

I would suggest not doing it the morning of. You want time to relax and enjoy the day and not be rushed in any fashion.

I had mine at Hot Olives in Winter Park and it worked out well. We had a group of about 25 and they set up the outside patio for us. The food was delicious and it wasn't too far from the Embassy, where we were all staying as well :)

Hot Olives is a pretty set up.  If you don't mind being outside (with your wedding date it may be very pleasant outside) it would be a great place for the rehearsal dinner!
