Semi Out of Town Wedding

I'm thinking of renting a large house about 2 hours from the Twin Cities. There is room in the house for our immediate family only to stay. I'd rent the house for a week with that idea that after the wedding, we'd turn it into a large family vacation. My ceremony will be extremely casual and laid back. After the ceremony, I'd have some kind of dinner for all of the guests and the remainder of the day would be spent on the lake, playing lawn games, etc. with everyone.

Can I still invite friends to the wedding even though there isn't room for them to stay? The house is in McGregor so I'm not exactly sure if there are any hotels for them to stay in.

Re: Semi Out of Town Wedding

  • I should probably add that the total guest list is 70. Half will be invited to stay on for the vacation portion. 70 is my number including children.
  • I would think this is fine as long as there is a reception for everyone attending. Guests can be responsible for their own accommodations, but if it's a case where it's a bit of a drive for them and there aren't hotels or anything nearby, you might have a higher than normal decline rate.

  • You are not responsible for lodging for your guests. If they wish to come to your wedding, they will find their own accomodations or will make the drive ther and back.

  • We had our wedding in Minneapolis even though we, and most of our friends and some family, live in St. Cloud. This made for about an 1.5 hr drive for a lot of our guest list. People are used to having to travel for weddings, so no biggie IMO.
