August 2012 Weddings

What are you doing for your favors?

I need some ideas, I want something edible, that doesn't require a lot of assembly :/ but maybe this doesn't exist!

Re: What are you doing for your favors?

  • I'm doing M&Ms, but that's because our names are Matt & Megan. I'm planning on putting them in a favor box and just call it done.

  • Cake balls are not as easy as they seem.. tried and failed! If someone is making them for you then go for it!!! I'm doing horseshoes... not exactly edible... as well as photobooth print outs.... also not edible... but you could do rock candy a little plastic wrap and a bow, or make some chocolates in a shape that works for your wedding style... ie: I might do chocolate mason jars, or chocolate horseshoes... hand dipped oreos are yummy also... or I've seen tons of cute mason jar mixes now as favors... smores, brownies, cookies etc... but that can be pricey to put all together! Hope that helps!!!

  • the past 4 weddings I have been to, the couple had put out favors of like mints in tins, or candy in little square boxes and they said afterwards hardly anybody really ate them or took them so I have bubble bottles, personalized.

  • My favors aren't edible, but I'm making magnets and putting them in tins. I will definitely post pics when they're done, but I have all the tins assembled already. They are round, 1oz tins with personalized stickers from vistaprint on the top. I also decided to glue ribbon around the edge (an idea from oriental trading, oddly enough. There will be 3 marble magnets in each tin. The images for the magnets FI and I picked out from stock images online (and they're only black and white).

This is the tutorial for the marble magnets: http://www.notmartha.org/tomake/marblemagnets/

I've made sets of these for christmas gifts. They're really easy to make, which is why I decided to make them into favors.
  • We are having fans at the ceremony that they can keep and photo coasters will be at each place setting at the reception. We also have the photobooth printouts.

The M&M one is really cute.

We're doing prints from the photobooth plus two macarons for each guest--you know they cute little French sandwich-like cookies? There is a place in Columbus, OH where the wedding is that makes great ones and I love the idea of our favor being something local. I will probably put them in a clear plastic box or bag with a sticker that has our initials on it and the info from the bakery.

  • We are doing photo booth printouts. Since we are both English teachers and doing book centerpieces, we will have plastic sleeves with tassels so guests can make their printouts into bookmarks.
  • We are having a beach theme wedding, so we bought candy molds from Michaels in seashell shapes for like $3 plus a bunch of different flavors/colors of chocolate that arel ike 2/$5 a bag. Super easy and inexpensive! We are going to wrap them in a cute little tulle circle with some ribbon.
  • Since we are having a destination wedding we are doing a Carribean Rub (found the recipe online) and bought individuals tins from Michaels.  Our guest can take them home and use while cooking their chicken or steak.  Took us about an hour to make  100 of them.

We are also doing luggage tags to go along with the theme.

  • I'm thinking we're going to do peanut M&Ms wrapped in printed clear gift wrap tied off with ribbons.  Something most people like and something I won't mind eating if people don't take them!

  • We are doing cute little mini baskets (our wedding is picnic themed) filled with one of those gummy hamburger or hotdog candies and M&Ms (FI's last name starts with M and I am going to take his last name).

We are also doing hang over kits and breakfast kits because we are having a small wedding (83 guests invited) and almost all are from out of town so I thought it would be a nice gesture since most of them will be staying in a hotel or driving 2-3 hours to get home after the reception (which will end around midnight)
    Pumpernickel and olive juice
  • We are doing personalized water bottles and putting one at each place setting.  I purchased the lables on Ebay cheap then got the water bottles at Sam's.  We figured that since it's August it will be hot and since people will be drinking they need water to go with their drinks.

We are doing bubbles, "groomscake", and little bags of candy.

Groomscake is basically a brownie or whatever you want to make, wrapped in wrapping paper with a ribbon wrapped around it, and attached to the ribbon (usually with a hole punch and ribbon through it) is a note that says "Sleep with this under your pillow, and dream of your true love".

Our bags of candy will be whatever candy is on sale, in white nickel & dime bags tied shut with red, black, and white ribbon :)

  • i am not making the cake balls just a suggestion. I am actually having bamboo coasters as our favors. I hunted and shopped on prices for them.

  • We are having a candy buffet, but I still need to figure out the containers for guests to take them home in.
Soon to be The B Squared Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • We are also doing the yankee candle votives with a label and wrapped in fabric. If people don't take them, I won't have to buy candles for a long time! lol
