And the venue hunt continues...

So FI and I went to look at the Waterfall in Claymont last week and I really liked it.  Very affordable and I have been to several weddings there before and been very impressed.  This week on our list in Harrys Savoy Ballroom and Concordvilled Inn.  Any suggestions/comments or things to inquire about when we go to our appointments.

Also, we were thinking of looking into White Clay Creek CC.  Thoughts?  Its a little far from where I'd like to be but I figure if we have the ceremony there as well its not too bad.  Most of my family is southern/central DE anyways.

You ladies have given great advice and I love posting here.  Much friendlier than the general boards and I really appreciate all your help.  Still pushing dad to help me set even a "in the general area" of a budget...he just keeps saying we have no much time.  He doesnt understand deposits and how quickly things can book in advance but we will get there.  Laughing

he thinks we have *SO much time, not "no much time".   Clearly if he thought there was no time, we'd have set a budget.  Sorry, 16 hour night work shifts make you slack on typing skills.

Only thing about Concordville... it is in Pennsylvania, so add an additional 6% for sales tax.  And most places add 21% for gratuities. I have been to events at their sister site, Mendenhall Inn... and they know how to throw a party.  And Harry's has pretty fantastic food.... and you'll get gorgeous flowers there (Harry's florist is also my florist--lol)

You really should have some kind of idea of what you can afford.  Waterfall and White Clay Creek CC are VERY different in price.  I'm pretty sure when I looked there, they were $121pp.
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.

Agreed, the Waterfall was very inexpensive and I loved that about them (who wouldn't) but my cousin had a price list from White Clay Creek from 2010 and it was similar to the Concordville.  I've been trying to get my dad to sit down and talk budget with me but between me working overnights 6 days a week and him pulling 12 hours shifts at 3 different jobs its impossible to get us together at a time when we are both awake and functioning.

Really pay attention to what is included for the price too.  I would recommend looking into Deerfield CC.  It is beautiful, big, and has a cool fountain.  They have been running up to 30% off specials.  I've gone there for weddings and special dinners and thought the food was good.

I had my wedding at White Clay CC in August 2010.  I could not be happier with the overall outcome and guests are still raving. The food delish, the room looked beautiful, our onsite coordinator ran everything flawless the day of and she had a lot to handle due to the fact we had a 10 piece band.  The prices for our year started at approx. 100 pp and go up to about 125.  The difference of price depends on entree (chicken, fish vs filet, crabcake).  It includes everything though bar, food, cake credit(outside vendor), linens and floral centerpieces (outisde vendor),a room for you and DH at the hilton the night of the wedding and limo transport leaving the reception. You get a choice of two entrees and a veg. option to offer your guests.  I had my ceremony at a church in N. Wilmington and alot of our guests on my husbands side came from the philly area and further.  The distance was orginally I thought far but the room, the inclusions and so many nearby hotels sold us.  GL and HTH.

I got an amazing price at Embassy Suites Newark.  Where most places say they will customize a package to fit your budget, I was turned away, or told my request was impossible at most venues when I tried to get them to "customize."  Joan did everything to accomodate my requests while still keeping it elegant and keeping the cost low.  Of course, it helps that I chose a Sunday wedding with 10% off but still - other venues just didn't compare....
