Are you doing a bouquet/garter toss?

I can't decide if we're gonna do it or not. The last wedding we went to they did not. If we didn't I would save a little by not buying garters or a toss bouquet.

Thoughts?

Re: Are you doing a bouquet/garter toss?

  • No for sure on the garter toss, it just seems embarrassing to me! I will probably do the bouquet toss though.

  • No ma'am. and for several reasons:

#1 - Im having a small wedding, and have even fewer single people coming
#2 - It just seems awkward every. darn. time I see one.
#3 - I don't know one person who says, "oh yay. I hope I catch that bouquet (or garter)"

  • We're doing both.  We're the first out of most of our friends to get married, and both of those are really common around here anyway.

I think they're cute.  The only thing with the garter toss is it would bother me if someone used their teeth or tried ot pull something else out (like a prop) to be funny.

  • Thinking of only doing bouquet toss.

We are doing both. Most of our friends are engaged but we're the first to tie the knot in our group. FI won't be using his teeth, thank god he's shy. Lol

  • We are doing both, but the removal of the garter will be couth. We are adding a 20 bill to the garter so the men will want to catch it. Honestly, I LOVE the bouquet toss. I was a bit saddened that I can never participate in it anymore. That's something I always looked forward to and was disappointed when people skip it.

  • We're doing both.  We're one of the last couples to get married on my side of the family, but he still has a bunch of single cousins, and they actually enjoy that part of it.  It'll be fun, and it doesn't take long.  And it's  good break for people to grab a drink during the dance.
  • We are doing both. I think they are fun and I feel like they bring everyone back to the dance floor. I don't think all garter tosses are awkward- only when the guy spends too long grabbing it. I caught the bouquet at 2 weddings in a row before getting engaged, and it was kinda funny seeing FI's reaction to that.

  • No to the garter toss.  For bouquet we will do longest couple dance instead.  I'm betting it will be my Grandparents again...they won it at my sisters wedding and we have the absolute cutest pictures of them dancing with the bouquet.

  • IT is totally a personal decision that you have to decide on.

For me, I have always found it embarassing to watch and participate in. We aren't doing either of them.

Nothing about our wedding is traditional though. No first dances and no cake for starters ;)

  • I think we are but that could change anytime.

  • I don't think we will be. I doubt there will be many singles there so it's pointless. Either way it doesn't bother me.

GREAT IDEA. We may do that. We're doing both. FI really wants to do the garter toss for some reason. His mom even said when I tried on my dress that it's nice and fluffy, great for when FI goes up to grab my garter. Lol.

  • I don't like garter tosses- I think they can tacky real quick.  I don't mind the bouquet toss, but I like the anniversary dance better, so that's what we're doing.  I'm going to give away my actual bouquet- I mean, what would I do with it?  My florist was all upset when I told him I was going to give away the bouquet and offered to make a free tossing bouquet, but I just don't see the point.

  • Yes!!! I don't care how cheesy or corny it is!!!
  • Yes, we are doing both as well :)  It's part of the fun!

  • I love the bouquet and garter toss. I also am upset I can't participate anymore! I've caught two before and love playing! FI and I agreed to keep the garter classy.  The only thing I'm upset about is one of my close friends-a bridesmaid said she doesn't want me doing it because she's single. I told her she doesn't have to get up if she doesn't want to. I have always been disappointed when weddings didn't have the toss.
  • I think we're doing both. I'll probably use one of the BMs bouquets because I didn't want to pay for a toss bouquet. I've also found some cute garter sets on Etsy for a pretty good price. We won't have the guy put the garter back on the girl that catches the bouquet though. I also think we'll do the anniversary dance as long as it works out time wise.

  • YES!! We are doing both!  Fun fun!  Also you can an inexpensive garter from Joann Fabrics and use a coupon....spend a couple of dollars.  To save more $$ just make a throw away bouquet.  Have fun!!
  • Neither. FI's mom and sister were really upset over this. We do not have many single people attending the wedding, so it seems kind of pointless for us, and we would rather do an anniversary dance as well.
However, I still am wearing a garter (a Green Bay Packers one- to be exact), for FI to discover when we are on our own after the wedding. lol

Our guest list is very small and the only "singles" will be children under 18, so I feel it is not appropriate. However, I've come up with some clever alternatives, gotta love the internet. we are doing a "breakaway bouquet" for the toss, basically, we will have 1 carnation for every girl/woman of all ages, it will be tied with a large ribbon. The DJ will call all females to the floor and right before I throw the l bouquet, I will untie the ribbon and flowers will go flying everywhere so that everyone gets one. We are still having the garter removal, but during the cocktail hour the bridal party will be selling tickets for a 5050 raffle for the garter. When the groom removes it, we will pull out a ticket and call the winner who will receive half of the total collected, the other half will be put toward our honeymoon fund.
