Need Advice! Please!

Okay, so my Fiance and I were originally not going to have a videographer, but after talking to other couples we think we really would like to do a video now.  We looked for videographers and I thought I found the perfect one, but I recently came across a new videographer out of town, but the new videographer is about double what the original one was.  My fiance thinks its too much money to spend on a video, but I think it would be worth it because the end product is so great!

I told him we couldn't add the expense onto our budget, but I think we could cut in other areas of the budget.  For example, my Fiance and I are not big drinkers at all (maybe a beer here and there) so I think it would be better money spent to put money toward the videographer and have a cash bar.  Another option is since our wedding is at 6:30 PM to cut appetizers out of the budget since we would eat shortly after the ceremony and spend that money on videographer.

What do you all think?  Is a video of your wedding day something to spend the money towards instead of food/alcohol for our guests?

Those who maybe already have videos or know people who do, do you watch them at all, or does the video just sit and collect dust?

Any advice you can give me would be very helpful!  Thanks!

I can't really answer your question about whether or not to have a videographer, because that really depends on you and your future husband.  We didn't do it, because it wasn't important to us.  I'm glad we have an amateur video of the ceremony, but I didn't think we would watch a real video, and the people I know who have them IRL never watch theirs.  That being said, some girls on TK are very very happy that they got a video.

But it sounds like you have a videographer.  If you really want the more expensive one, then find the money elsewhere - do NOT sacrifice the food and alcohol just for a nicer video.  I think that's pretty insulting to your guests.

Don't cut the bar... Do cut the appitizers, usually the meal fills people up anyways.

This exactly.  We had a friend record the ceremony, the toasts, etc, and I watched it once after the wedding.  I'm glad I have it, but I don't feel like I need anything else since my "big" item was the photography, which I LOVE and look at regularly.

Ask your photographer if they have HD video with their camera's. It's very cool. See if they can put together what is called a Fusion video. This is a video with still photography & HD video combined. It's amazing and an excellent alternative to a separate videographer.

Note: If your photographer has HD video capability but has not yet learned to use it encourage them to do so... maybe by offering a healthy tip if they work that into your package... ;)

Congratulations on your coming wedding! Hope all goes well.

    best to you & yours,
