I hate wearing lipstick...

...but I know I need to wear something on my lips to prevent me from looking washed out.  I'm getting airbrushed makeup with false lashes; a dark, dramatic and glam eye.  My artist was awesome except her lip stuff sucked - she kept putting super shiny pink gloss on me.  I wiped it off after but it looks too washed out and I know photos will look funny.  My eyes will use black and a shimmery dark purple.  I'm pale, blonde with blue eyes, and have no idea how to wear lipstick.  Any ideas on a matte, not dark or heavy lip color?  I just want something to give me a little color (no pink, peach, purple).  Is lipstain a good idea?  I just hate the shiny look.  Any input would be helpful.

    I can't tell you off the bat what would look good... but if you have a Sephora in your area, they may be able to color-match you to find something that you like that goes with your skin tone.

    During my makeup trial my lips were too pink also. Later I walked around at the local mall makeup counters and found a color I liked better and asked my MUA to use something in that color/shade.  Mine was a red/brown combination.

    I didn't wear lipstick- I wore lip primer and then colored in my lips with a lip pencil/liner.  It says much better and isn't sticky/gloppy.  Lasted through the entire day.  I used a nude pencil- so it was a smidge darker than my natural color but didn't look PINK

    All good ideas, thank you!  I have not tried lipstick since my teenage goth days so deep burgundy is all I know.  I also don't want anything sticky or shiny, or that will get all over FI and bug him. 

    I will try a Sephora and bring pics of my makeup trial to match it to the eye look maybe.

    I also only trusted one lipstick ever and Neutrogena discontinued it. To find a replacement (after I went without for months and pouted) I went to Ulta and told the consultant all the reasons why I hated listick(shiny/ sticky are my two primary complaints). The nice thing about Ulta is if you aren't happy with a product return it! I actually found two lip stains I like and then I wear chapstick ontop for a little shine without the stickyness. Just an idea of how to shop around and find something you'll be happy with. I like rose pink colors and the tube color never matches how it shows up on your lips.

    I hate lipstick because it smudges, it's sticky, etc. I use lipstain almost exclusively. Revlon has a decent one, Ulta's are pretty good and last awhile, and Sula has a combo lip/cheek tint stain that is much more subtle and easily blended than a liquid stain.

    One thing my makeup girl told me was to wear a lipstick liner, and apply it all over your lips and then use a sheer gloss over the top.  It stays forever and there's no need to reapply!

    I don't like lipstick either, so I used my usual tinted Burts Bees lip balm.  It's basically chapstick that has color to it.

    Thanks, everybody!  I think I might do that Burts Bees stuff, I've seen it at the stores and I feel like I had a tube forever ago.  I just don't know what color to do with my skin/hair/eye color and the purple on my eyes.
