Affordable venues in Michigan

Hi. We are looking for a cheap indoor (January) wedding venue in Michigan. We live in southeast MI. I want the wedding and reception in the same place, and somewhere that allows outside food. We have about 100 people. Any advice is appreciated.

Canterbury Village in Lake Orion, they have a chapel and the reception area is about 100 steps away in the next building.  A beautiful location, lots of personality and a great price for the food.
I'm getting married there in June 2011!
They have three rooms, I know they take 100 people because that is what I started out at.  Now I'm up to 130.  Not sure if they take outside vendors for food though.  I'm bringing my cake.

Hi! Welcome to the board!! The girls here are awesome and have great advice. Check the sticky posts at the top of the board (posts with little pushpins next to them). There are reviews on practically every vendor in MI and some girls have listed the costs. Plus, since you are technically in the off-season (between November and march) lots of vendors (venues, photographers, etc) offer discounted rates. Happy planning!!

It depends on your definition of cheap. ;-) The University of Michigan has some nice venues - the ballroom at the Union, Michigan League, UMMA - but I don't know specifics. There's a restaurant in Ypsi that lets people use their adjoining space for free and they allow you to bring in your own food - it's called Sidetrack. Not sure how many they hold, though. Good luck!

When first planning our wedding we were looking at restaurant with banquet rooms. It was cheaper then indepedant banquet halls. You wouldn't be able to bring your own food but it'd be cheaper then a hall.
    try VFW halls

We're getting married at Oak Arbor Church (& Banquet Facility) in Rochester, MI... The church looks gorgeous and both the reception hall and church have big windows (which I really like, because FI and I are outdoors-y people)

Oak Arbor requires a $1000 RETURNABLE* deposit (as long as things aren't broken or require ridiculously amounts of cleaning) My sister's boyfriend's cousin got married there and my sister said they didn't have any problems at all and everything went smoothly yadda yadda yadda. So far we've had great communication with them and they have been easy going. PM me for more details :-)

I'm getting married at Stone Creek Banquet Hall in Flat Rock, it's a very pretty building and super reasonably priced.
