How far in advance did you book your venue?

Hi All,
I am newly engaged and thinking about a September 2011 wedding on the Cape. I thought I had plenty of time to find a place, but I've heard from quite a few people that the good places get booked up two years in advance!! How far in advance did you all book your venues? Thank you so much!

    Congratulations on the engagement! I booked my Oct. 9 2010 wedding in Dec. 2009. When we started looking in November 2009, there were a number of places I contacted that were booked up completely for Saturdays in Sept. So, you do have plenty of time, but I would start looking sooner rather than later. Sept is one of the most popular months for weddings on the Cape. Most places will put a hold on a date for you for a few weeks while you decide, too.

    I am getting married in April 2011 and I just booked my venue in March 2010.  Most places were still available for the month of April, but I know the summer of 2011 was getting full!  Happy planning!  :)

    HI congratulations !   we are getting married on 8/28/10 - we booked  our venue the Casino Wharf FX in Falmouth in November '09.   it's the biggest choice you have regarding the wedding.   keep in mind that the more popular the venue the quicker it's going to book!   I remember looking at a few places and they were already booked well over a year in advance!   Dont wait.   you can never book too early.  and then you can start taking care of all the other MILLION things that need to be done!   ;o)

    We booked about 14 months out. For popular months and wedding venues I would look at least a year and a half in advance.

    I will also add that once you book the venue and date, the other things start to come together on their own, at least a little. Like, if there is one DJ you really want, you can book him early,  thank kind of thing.

    I got engaged in February 2009, and looked literally 2 weeks after that and booked for a June 2010 wedding, so we're talking about roughly 16 months ahead. A lot of the places I looked at were already booked on the day I was looking at, and we're talking about almost a year and a half in advance! But I think it depends if you're looking for a summer wedding or more during the off-season. Summers booked up more quickly.

    I think I booked about 18 months in advance.  I don't know why you would sit around and wait when you can get something checked off your list!!

    Definitely try to book sooner rather than later.  We were married in September 2008 and booked our venue in June 2007 - even then, most weekends were already taken!  GL!

    it depends on the month you choose really. I got engaged in October, 2009.  Booked the venue, December for a this year July wedding, so that is 6.5 months.

    We booked a year in advance - and that was for a May wedding!  If you want a Sat. night during the summer, book as soon as possible.

    we booked 2 years in advance for oct 2, 2010 and at that time all the sept and oct weddings for 2009 were taken and quite a few in 2010 as well.

    Thanks all! I really appreciate the advice. We are going to look at a few of my favorite places next weekend. I'll let you know if we book anything :)

    We are planning on putting down a deposit this Sunday for our June 2011 wedding. That's 14 months in advance. Our contact said that other June and July 2011 dates are already booked up!
