I agree that saying "Jones Family" is a bad idea because there will be several groups with that same last name.
Each person who takes up a seat should get their own placecard. That is especially true if you are required by your caterer to have a code in place to let waiters know who wants what meal at a sitdown dinner. Even for a buffet, it lets people know where they are supposed to sit to keep everything organized and ensure that everyone has somewhere to go. Otherwise it will be pure chaos.
I've seen it all different ways. But mostly I've seen the couple on one card and the kids getting their own cards.
What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
It's not that I don't want to list them seperately, just checking on the easiest way to do it. They will all have their own place cards at each seat, but I guess I was afraid that if I'm putting them on the seating chart that it might be overlooked if not listed with their parents.
I agree that the kids will like seeing their own name and having their own placecard.
Thanks for the input! It's just one of those things that you don't think about until you actually have to put it on paper! Thanks again!
My FI and I are planning on doing a seating chart but no seating cards. They are more work than needed I believe. If they know which table they get to sit at, why do you have to tell them which chair they need to sit in? I don't get it.
You don't have to specify the seat. When people do placecards, they are just directly guests to the tables and letting them pick which chair they want.
