Maryland-Baltimore

Like where you live?

I'm from NYC but have been asked to come to Baltimore for a job interview.

Long story short I would like to do some research on houses before I go.  What neighborhoods do you recommend for a family of 4?  Is there a Chinatown in Baltimore?

I googled but it wasn't very helpful.

Any help would be great.  Thanks and good luck with your wedding planning.

It is at a hosptial conglmerate, the exact name wasn't given to me yet becuase I was contacted by a headhunter.  I'm willing to commute about 45 minitues.  I would like the suburbs.  A good school district is key.

Hospital conglmerate may be Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland...or one of the million other hospitals we have around here. But if its a big name hospital it may be Hopkins. If its the main hospital, then living the Towson area would make for a pretty good commute. Especially if you are willing to use public transportation. If you want to live in the city, you are talking super expensive for decent housing. I'm not sure if you want to buy/rent, or what kind of money you are willing to spend on housing...any of the county neighborhoods that border the city, you may want to locate a specific neighborhood you are interested in and ask for recommendations. Towson, Parkville, Perry Hall, Dundalk, Rosedale, Essex, it just depends on what you want and the kind of neighborhood you are interested in. PM me if you have any specific questions about neighborhoods.

I'd also recommend Cockeysville or Hunt Valley. It's a very easy drive into the city and real estate prices are decent.

    What about Hyattsville?

Hyattsville is a bit far from Baltimore-it's more of a DC suburb.  I currently live between DC and Baltimore and get the DC news and there seems to be quite a bit of violent crime in Hyattsville.

I used to live in Timonium/Cockeysville and there's some nice suburban areas there. I'm in Harford County now, and I think it's definitely more family friendly than parts of Baltimore County, and about 40 minutes from the city. I'd stay away from Dundalk, Essex, or Edgewood if you have kids.

I second Ellicott City. It's centrally located between DC and Baltimore. DC has China Town. Baltimore had Little Italy and Greektown. No matter where you go, there's good food :)

FI used to live in Cockeysville -- it's a nice area.
