Airfare to Mexico??

I live in the Central Valley, CA and I always hear that airfare to Mexico is super cheap. However, now that the fiancee and I have pretty much decided on Mexico for our honeymoon and I have started researching airfare, etc, it doesn't seem cheap at all! It is actually more expensive than the airfare costs when I travel to Hawaii! So does anyone know of any airlines or websites, etc that I should look into when purchasing airfare to Mexico in general? How much have you paid for a flight from CA to MX?? We haven't decided which airports we will be flying in or out of, and that will probably depend on cost as well. We may even fly out of Los Angeles which should make the cost even cheaper since the flight will be less than hour long..Any advice from someone who has flown that way before? Thanks in advance!

  • I don't know about that specific route, but I always use Kayak to compare prices for flights.

  • I agree with PP for the Kayak suggestion. But for Mexican/Caribbean vacations, we usually use sites like Apple Vacations or Cheap Caribbean to bundle airfare, hotel and transportation. We've priced out the three items separately each time and the bundle always comes out as more economical.

  • Thanks Bryan&AmyC!! I checked out the websites you suggested and there were some awesome deals! Now I just need to call and find out if we can get our airfare start and end points from two different places, and we will be set! Great advice!! :)
  • We also used Apple to bundle our airfare + hotel together. We priced them out separately, and for JUST our hotel, it was the same price as if we bundled them together (or perhaps like $50 different). Bundling them saved us somewhere around $800 (I might be off a little bit, but it was a substantial amount of money!)
  • just so you know aifare is up a lot this year. DH and i go to mexico (JFK to Cancun) every december (non-holiday time) and for the past 8 years it was about 350/person nonstop on jetblue. last year was about 500 a person. thsi year is up again.
