Gamberdella vs. Betsy Robinson

Anyone been to these and willing to share your thoughts?  What's the vibe like at each?  I think I'm going to take my mom and aunts to one of the two, but I can't decide which.  I'm looking for a classic bride-in-a-bridal-store experience, but ideally without a lot of pressure to buy.  This is my first real trip out, and the we don't even have a date set yet, so I don't plan on making a decision any time soon, but my mom's only in town for a few more weeks (she lives overseas) so this will be my only opportunity to try on dresses with her.  I've never done this before...will the salon be annoyed if I'm going more for the experience (and to see what looks good on me) than to buy?

I haven't been to Gamberdella's, but it gets great reviews here.

I loved Betsey Robinson, it's where I got my dress.  I felt very comfortable and did not feel pressured at all.  They have been very helpful every time I've talked to them, even giving me recommendations for places to get accessories even though they sell them in the store.  They have the dresses divided into rooms based on budget, and they let you browse around and pick them out, then they carry them all into the room for you.  So it's not like Kleinfeld's, where you never see the dresses and they bring them in to you, in case that's what you were hoping for.  But I felt like it was the full 'bridal salon experience', IMO.

The consultant was surprised I bought my dress at my first visit, so I'd imagine they wouldn't be upset if you didn't make a purchase.  Be up-front and say you haven't done any shopping yet and you're trying to get a feel for budget and which designers you like and which styles look good on you.

Can you really only go to just one? I think if possible, you should try to schedule appointments at both.

I got my dress from Gamberdella's, although I didn't go to Betsy Robinson so I can't compare them for you.

At Gamberdella's, you tell them your budget and the style of dress that you are going for.  They will bring you dresses that fit that, and will not bring you anything over your budget.  I had already been shopping for awhile when i went there, so I actually did buy my dress at the visit because I had already seen a lot of dresses.  But I didn't feel pressure to make a decision at that visit.  The consultant was very knowledgable and friendly.   Also, their seamstress is amazing (if you do decide to buy a dress there eventualy).  They are very reasonably priced for alterations.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I went to both and had a great experience at both of the salons. Besty Robinson's was my first place so I told the woman up front that it was first time trying on gowns and she was very understanding and never made me feel like I had to buy a dress that day. Besty Robinson's has a huge selection of gowns as well...many designers.

Gamberdella's was the third place I went to and I happen to find my dress from there. THey are smaller than Besty Robinson's but again relaxed and didn't make me feel like I had to buy that day. THey have a smaller selection of designers, but still some great designers. They were also very helpful as well.

I def think you should try to go to both!

I got my shoes at Gamberdella and am slightly dissapointed I didn't get to go there for dresses as well. The consultant (Sarah) asked me what I was shopping for that day. I told her shoes, what my dress looked like and that I wanted less than 4 inches and lots of sparkle. She brought out 6 or 7 pair that matched the criteria and I fell in love with all of them. I definitely didn't feel ANY kind of pressure from them.

Betsy Robinson's ladies were very nice when I went in to browse bridesmaid dresses. They also didn't pressure me at all, and I have heard great things from other brides about them.

My advice to you would be to go onto their websites and look at the designers they carry. If you are looking to try on a particular designer, I would go to whichever store carries it. I was looking for Maggie Sottero for my dress which neither carried. But just have fun with it!

I went to both and you can't really go wrong with either one.  We went to Betsy Robinson first and the consultant was great.  She knew is was the first time I was trying on dresses and didn't put any pressure on me to make a decision and was very open to what I liked and didn't.  I didn't get my dress there, but my BMs did.

We went to Gamberdella's right after Betsy Robinson and they were just as great to work with.  The only difference (and not a big deal) was that at BR you can look through the dresses yourself.  At Gamberdella you can't - the consultant brings them to you.  This didn't bother me at all.  I loved my experiences at both and just happened to get my dress at Gamberdella's - I thought they had a better selection - at least what I tried on.

You can't really go wrong with either store.  If you have time - go to both!

I have been to both, and like pp mentioned, at BR they do allow you to look through the dresses, which was a HUGE plus to me.  The dress I ultimately selected was one that I had found myself!

IMO, BR was a much cleaner and more organized store with a better selection.

Gamberdella's staff was very nice, but my overall experience at BR was far superior.

    Good luck!

For the Gamberdella girls- did it take the full 6 months for your dress to come in? I'm sitting at 5 months right now and starting to get anxious! I know I should just chill out but I don't want to call them and sound like a bride-zilla when I "know" I have up until the end of August really from what they said.   Just wanted to see what your experiences were!
