My fiance & I are leaning towards only having a ceremony at our church & then an hour long cake & punch following after in one of the church meeting rooms.  We can not financially afford to have a reception. So we thought this would be a nice way of still having people come to our ceremony & still be able to mingle for a while afterwards. I do plan on giving 'party favors' to the people who can attend. Would it be rude or inappropriate of me to include us being registered at Target on the invitation? I wasn't sure since we are not having a formal reception. Any input would be great. Thanks in advance ladies!

    You are having a reception. The cake and punch you have planned are a reception.

    Do not include registry information on the invitation, that would still be rude.

    Cake and punch in the church hall IS a reception. So long as it's not at a mealtime (like in the midafternoon), you are completely within etiquette with what you're providing.  If you can afford to offer some cheese and crackers and/or fruit trays, mini sandwiches, things like that, you can do that too.  But it's not required.  You might think about offering coffee and/or tea along with the punch, if you can afford it.

    I agree with previous posters.  Just make sure you don't have your ceremony at a meal time.  2pm is a good start time if you are just having a quick cake/punch/coffee/tea reception.    And NEVER include registry information on your invitation.  that should be spread by word of mouth.  If someone asks, it's ok to tell them, but don't put it on the invitation or on an insert.

    PPs are correct -- this is your reception, and don't include registry info on the invitation.

    I would suggest that instead of favors, you use that money for a cheese tray or something similar.  I think your guests would appreciate that more than a trinket or even an edible favor.

    I agree with others that it's best to communicate registry info on your wedding website or via word of mouth.

    You might also consider spreading the word through friends and family that your reception will be cake and punch.
