NWR: Tattoos

Hey ladies! I know a few of you have tattoos and I thought I'd get your input. My sister is trying to persuade me to get a tattoo with her and my mom (my mom's midlife crisis I think). Anyway, I am THINKING about it as a possibility, but I'm afraid it will hurt too much and since I have a low pain tolerance usually, I'm not sure if I am crazy for even considering it. I have gotten my belly button pierced, but I've read that it's very painful to get a tattoo and have heard from people that it hurts like hell. I'd want to get something small and probably on my foot somewhere. Here's a pic of something similar to what I'd want to possibly get...

Re: NWR: Tattoos

  • I love that tattoo!! And I'm really picky about tats... but I honestly love it. It's so cool...

I got my belly button pierced and honestly I didn't feel a thing. I have also had a bunch of ear piercings... I had my left ear cartilidge pierced twice. Those healed up. I got my right cartilidge on my ear pierced twice. One healed, the other is still open. I still have three wholes on my left ear and I have three on my right. I didn't feel any of them.

I guess you could say tattoos hurt...yeah. But for me, I liked getting them done. That might come off as strange, but there is just something about it that I like. It makes life more real or something? lol idk. But it also depends where you get it. The most sensitive spots are wrists, hands, feet and ribs. Those spots hurt the most.

I think they sting, but hurt...I don't think so. It depends how you feel about them. If you constantly focus on the pain and obsess about it, then they are going to hurt. But if you can have a whatever attitude, then you won't even notice. My friend cried when she got hers...It was this little tiny zodiac sign in the least sensitive spot. It was because she focused on it. Don't focus on it and you will be fine.

  • That tattoo is really cute!!! I also have a few myself. I agree with mymissingpuzzle they can be painful depending on where you get it and how much detail is going into it. I am going to be honest if you have a low pain tolerance I wouldn't get it on your foot. I have two on my wirst and they stung more than anything. I think if you can handle getting your belly button pierced then you can handle a 30 min tattoo. I wouldn't say they hurt ... I would say it feels like when you scratch of have a small cut and it stings that the feeling that I get when I get tattoos after awhile it goes numb. Don't let other people freak you out about the pain its mind over matter. GL let us know if you get it!!!

I have 2 tattoos, both are small & in black ink only & they each took under 10 minutes.  I'd say I'm pretty middle-of-the road as far as a pain threshold goes & I was totally fine getting both.  I might have made some faces & gripped the chair a little but I would do it again in a heartbeat.  Generally if it's more boney/less fatty or tissuey, it'll hurt more.

That 'love' tat is really, really cute.

Oh & also, my 2nd tattoo is on the inside of my foot, like below my ankle bone. I will try to take a pic & add it in a few.  The next taboo I want will probably be on the top of my other foot.

I have my one tattoo. I have a very low pain tolerence (even after birthing three kids). I will be honest. I passed out after 5 min into my tattoo. Just was anxiety and nerves. After that I read for 3 hours. Did it hurt, yes it did. Eventually I went numb. I have a friend who got hers on the top of her foot and she said she was death gripping the chair the whole time. But she said it was so worth it. I cant wait to get another. I actually have 3 more planned.

here is my current one lets see if I can get it to work

  • Yeah generally where there are nerve endings, it will be more painful. I don't have any tattoos, but that's what I've heard from my friends' experiences :-)

I'd like to get one someday, but have no idea what of. I have my nose pierced, that basically felt like a pinch and I teared up for a second afterward.

  • That's a really nice tattoo and I'm not a fan of those cliche type tattoos.
I have a tattoo on my foot, it hurt hear the ankle bone, but that was about it. I have 4 tattoos and the one that hurt the most was on my left shoulder blade.

The pain is different for everyone, it's mind over matter. I've almost passed out during a tattoo before, but I found that as long as I had some candy to munch on and water, I was ok. Oh, and having someone to talk to is always good too.

  • I really like that!
I have 2, one on my ankle and one on my shoulder. My ankle hurt (I may have concentrated on it too much, it was my first one) but my shoulder did not hurt at all.

  • Thanks ladies! It's starting to look as if I may do it. I will definitely let you ladies know which way I go for sure! Thanks for all the honest info. =) I definitely appreciate it!
  • Good luck for your first tattoo! The designs are really cool. I'm about to get my 2nd (a cover of the first). It will be about 5 hours....so I'm not looking forward to it, but the pain is manageable. I think it's totally worth it, tattoos are so fun.
