Someone might get punched today...

I am surrounded by idiots at work today.  First there is a project manager who is running a project and apparently wants me to help him out... Without ever seeing me face to face... he is sending me emails asking me if I have figured out the scope of HIS PROJECT. Sorry dude... I'm a system administrator... I'm not a project manager and I refuse to do your bitch work for you.

Then my OLD boss came bitching to my new boss about an email that was sent to him that just happen to have something that I was involved with as an example of how one of our systems don't work right... so Old boss bitches to new boss about how I didn't follow process.  So I call the guy who wrote the email and I'm like WTF... I did everything right and he explained to me that it was the system he was referring to... not me...  Old boss should have known this right off the bat because before I got promoted I was the ONLY person on his team that followed process.  In fact, I wrote the god damn process.

Then there is this dude... on  my team who seems to be partially retarded... he sits at his desk and logs into our systems and screws everything up... All of a sudden something breaks and the rest of the team is talking about it being broken... he doesnt say a word... We spent all day yesterday trying to fix something that he broke... and he knew we were working on it... he didn't say a word.

Not to mention... he picks at scabs on his head and it drives me bat sh!t crazy.

I thinik I might have to leave early today.  How is everyone elses day going? :P

Re: Someone might get punched today...

  • I dont know about you, but I like to walk into a room full of strangers and bitch to them about the scab picker at work.  All the time.  Makes so much sense.

For the record, my "retarded" brother does his job efficiently, is quick to ask for help and fess up to any mistakes, is obsessively hygienic, and a pretty swell guy.  As are a few of his friends. So as you see, describing a gross and inept coworker as "retarded" is highly inaccurate and perpetuates a hurtful term for differently-abled and special needs individuals.

  • For the record... I have a sister with down syndrome.  Saying that your brother is "retarded" is politically incorrect.  He is disabled.  If the guy had down syndrome, or any obvious disabilities... then it would have been insensitive to call him retarded.
  • Anna, I kind of love you right now.

Sounds like you're overreacting to some misunderstandings OP.
  • So with a family member who has down syndrome you have no issues throwing that word around willy nilly?  I don't get it.

But its not insensitive and politically incorrect to call random coworkers?  I absolutely hate when people throw that word around.  You seem extremely insensitive and cocky based on your posts.  Sorry you work with morons but they are probably sorry they work with a bitch.

    Haha Brilly. My thoughts exactly.

ETA: While the project manager is in charge of the project they rely on a team of people to help them. That's why they are a manager, they manage people. Though from your attitude methinks he should find better team members.

<div>It IS politically incorrect.  I don't ever call him that word because so many people like yourself have bandied it about to the point that it's considered hateful.  I've seen my brother cringe while out to eat if he hears the word being used by teens amongst themselves in a supposedly playful way because he fears that word after a lifetime of bullying and hate from perfect strangers who never take a minute to actually get to know him.  I put it in quotes because it was YOUR word.  Frankly, I find it insensitive to call anyone you don't know that.  Visible or not.  Many people have disorders, syndromes, and such that would get them childishly taunted as "retarded" if they were known.

Also, my brother is not "disabled"  he's just as able as you or me.  He just goes about things a bit differently to reach his goals.  Thankfully, he does have an overwhelming ability to love unconditionally and to forgive even the most pigheaded or people he comes across.</div>

    Give her a break ladies...

I got married in a quickie ceremony two weeks ago... and we are having a WEDDING in June. Not very many people know about us being married yet (We did so to get a jump on the legal parts and build a house) and we aren't running around telling every one because we don't want to take away from our special day in June that we have planned for over a year.

To people who don't know, I call my husband my fiance. Big friggen deal. To each their own.

Good grief.  Since when do you need to be married to build a house?

Denial.  Not just a river in Egypt.

I have, and will continue to volunteer with my local Special Olympics for years, ALL of these people are the sweetest, kindest most loving people on Earth, and it makes me so mad for people to just throw words around not worrying about how they might offend someone.

Once, about two years ago now one of my friends who happens to have Downs Syndrome and I were in the grocery store picking up supplies when, just as anna mentioned 2 loud mouthed teenagers right next to us shot off their mouths about something being "retarted", not bothering to look around to see who was there.  I was pissed.  I started to say something to the two teenagers myself but my friend said "no, I'll handle it" and he walked calmly over to the two teenagers and said "I may have Downs Syndrome but you two are retarded" you should have saw the looks on those two teenagers faces.  I have never been so proud of someone in my whole entire life.  I would almost bet that from now on those two teenagers will be more careful in how they speak.
