Todd Akin's answer to everything - "I was misinformed" ::shrug::

Re: Todd Akin's answer to everything - "I was misinformed" ::shrug::

  • Missouri voters must be really stupid to think this guy is a legitimate option to act in government.
  • I am so tired of this dude.  Seriously, how has he been elected and relected (last time by 39 points) in his district?

Last poll put Claire 6 points ahead.  Please, please, please, please MO voter do not let this man represent us for the longest 6 years EVER.

I just saw an article on Slate in which he claims Planned Parenthood performs "abortions" on women who are not pregnant, for profit.  There is much speculation in the comments that he's a little fuzzy on what a D&C is/is not.  Possibly, he "was misinformed."

  • That was from a 2008 speech.  I always think it's a little icky (nice scientific word there) to go far back in history for an old speech, but somehow I'm sure he still believes abortion clinics are tricking women into thinking they need an abortion for $.  Yeah, b/c those doctors/nurses/staffers who are under bomb/death threats all the time really love the cash.

The myth started back with a nurse who worked in an abortion clinic and then converted to a pro-life campaigner.

Thing is, I think there are plenty of doctors of all kinds who perform unnecessary procedures (or pretend to) for profit. I mean, people are found to defraud medicare this way semiregularly.

But to suggest abortion providers do it more often than anyone else is more than a little ridiculous.

I also find it inane that instead of clarifying that he meant "doctors claim to perform procedures that they don't," he just stood behind his inaccurate choice of words that "doctors do perform abortions on women who aren't pregnant."

  • That's an excellent point too, DG.
