A potentially stupid question regarding escort cards and place cards

Since we won't know for sure who will be attending our receptions until we receive RSVPs back.....are you guys planning to wait until after you get RSVPs to make/order your escort and/or place cards? Or are just planning to order for everyone in advance and then throw away the ones you don't need? Is there another way to do this that I am just not thinking of?

Sorry if this seems silly...it just seems like a time consuming project and I was nervous about only having 5 weeks to do it!

    This is exactly why I have been stressing out about escort cards!

    Are you planning on ordering them and then printing them yourself? Hand writing them? Taking them somewhere to be printed?

    My plan as of right now is to make them myself. I figure I'll have enough time to making the seating chart, print them, and cut them out between our RSVP date and the wedding.

    Not silly at all!!  I'm doing the definite yes'!  i.e. aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, WP...and waiting until we get the RSVP's for the remainder.  I don't want to waste any paper to make more than necessary.

    I think I am going to get them printed with everyone's names prior and then just right in the table number after we make the seating chart.  We have a general idea anyways already of seating and such since I played around with the table tool on the knot to see what it was all about.

    Yeah, we are planning to wait til RSVPS come in, because that may affect the table numbers of where people will sit depending on who is coming for sure. 
    I also think we will type them up first on the template i am using, and then edit them as necessary before printing. Im doing them myself, so that should be pretty easy. Or we will handwrite them. Doing the names as they come in, and adding the table numbers later.
