Just Engaged and Proposals

My new Legos!

Unbeknownst to me, I thwarted all of my fiance's plans!

He wanted to propose to me at the ice rink during an open skate session (I am a competitive figure skater), but when he suggested going skating, I didn't feel like going to the rink because my synchronized skating team's season just ended and last Sunday was the first Sunday since August that I didn't have to be at the rink all afternoon.

He then suggested we go to dinner. However, I had been out of town the entire week before, was kind of sick of eating in restaurants and wanted to cook.

We had just gotten home from taking the kids (his 2 sons from his first marriage, we have full custody) to Sunday school, and I was emptying the dishwasher when my fiancee called me into the living room and told me to sit down in my armchair. He handed me a wrapped gift. I opened it and it was a Lego bride and groom set. I kind of looked at it confused and he told me to open the box, and when I dumped out the pieces, the ring was in there among all the pieces. He proposed whle his 8 yr old promptly snatched up the Lego pieces and assembled it for us.  Turns out the Lego set was the kids' idea and they had known all about this for a few days!

That is adorable. Congrats and happy planning!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I love it! That's a great story :)

What Synchro team do you skate for? My team's dress designer mentioned she did dresses for teams in Ohio as well as Canada.

I am on Goldenettes, we are an adult team now, we were a senior team when we were younger. 2 wks ago was my 20th trip to nationals, I've done every level juv thru senior, collegiate adult for a few different teams in different states over the years. Who do you skate for?

</div><div>Right now I skate an Adult III team (what the old masters was) called Edge Expressions. I am leaving that team though (too much drama) and going to an Adult II team for next season! I started with sychro when I was in high school and skated all the way through university. This is only my second year back, I didn't skate from 2007 - 2011.

  • My younger sister is on a team from the NY area called the Skyliners! I just moved to the Cleveland area 2 years ago, and my sister wanted to come here for college to be near me. So good to hear of a synchro team near here that went to Nationals! Were you in Detroit or elsewhere?

Yeah we were at nationals in Detroit.  We'll definitely have room for skaters next year if you're interested!  We only had 12 this year (16 last year, some people had things going on this season that kept them from skating).  We only practice on Sunday evenings (at Garfield Hts) and we have a really good time.

Skyliners were fabulous at nationals.  Their junior team was beautiful and thier senior long was probably the best Les Mis synchro program I've ever seen.  I used to coach a junior team and a collegiate team out in the Eastern section 6 yrs ago when I was in graduate school, and I'm so impressed with how far that club has come in such a short time.
  • That is the cuuuutest story ever! LOLZ Congrats!
