Lunch reception

* I posted this on the reception board and one of our Vegas Knotties suggest I post it here as well. Thanks! I am having a lunch reception at a resturant.  The room we have is small so we will have a cake but there will not be a dj or a dance floor. I think this is okay though because we are getting married in Vegas so we can party later that night.  WIth all that being said......what do we do beside eat at the reception?  Do we still have toast?  We will still have a cake cutting. What else do we do?  We have a very small wedding 30 or less so we didn't want to spend a lot on a reception.  Any ideas????

    That is exactly what we are planning to do! We are doing a small Vegas wedding to keep the costs down. We are thinking either lunch or a cocktail hour then just having everyone use the trip as a mini-vacation and go out and do what THEY want to do!
    We are planning an afternoon wedding at CP then the small meal at Trevi. I think that there is so much to do in Vegas I would feel bad kidnapping the guests for the whole time....not to mention I can't afford it! Good luck in the planning!

    It's nice to see someone with the same school of thought as me :)  I was SO grateful when my friend didn't plan 4 hosted events for her DW in Vegas and kept the wedding events limited to 1 evening, not all day.  We were free to enjoy our trip as we wished and didn't feel obligated to go to all these hosted events.  Most of the guests hung out with each other anyways.

    I am praying that is what my guest do!  I actually don't have anything planned after the wedding day and want to enjoy that time with my new husband.  Only thing is my sister and my BF from out of town will be there and may want to hang out.  I have ben encouraging them to come in a day early and leave early. Lol!  I'm hoping my sister will go to my house and we can hang out more after the wedding weekend for a couple days.

    My sister had a lunch reception at a hotel with under 30 people.  She had a cake cutting, I toasted them (and my mother said a few words) but we also had dancing.

    I believe that her wedding and reception came in under $5K.  She was married in a casino/hotel in Lake Tahoe and chose a weekday to keep costs down.

    Even though her wedding was at 1:30, we still partied, drank and danced the afternoon away.  After they booted us from the room, we took all the leftover booze back to the hotel room and drank it.  Then a big group of us went to dinner.

    Now with more wedded bliss.

    I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

    My BFF is having a brunch wedding this weekend. She is just doing food, cake, toasts, and socializing. I can't wait, it's going to be so much fun:)

    Oh I am sooo glad to hear people like this idea! I was a little worried about how people will react when they realize there is only one afteroon of hosted activites! I am hoping our families/friends are as open as you guys are!

    We had dessert and toast before we boarded the double decker bus to drink and tour the strip. I LOVED doing the luncheon !

    We're only hosting the wedding. I have a guest list of 100 people, I just can not afford to pay for an additional 100 meals (or even 50 addition meals).

    No idea if were even doing a rehearsal dinner yet, b/c we haven't decided if we're doing a rehearsal or not. FI's brothers havn't decided what day they are driving out yet. My sister won't know what day she can fly out until she gets her schedule. So chances are, the only people from the wedding party we'll have there are me, FI and my best friend. If they do come out, we will, of course, treat them to dinner or something along those lines.

    The room we have at Maggianos isnt big enough for a dance floor and with my small number of guest I won't be able to make the bigger rooms minimum so we will just stay.  I am sure it will be fun.  I'm excited!

    We are doing a brunch reception. I figure we will just wing it. Brunch, cake cutting, and a toast. No DJ or dancing for us.

    Let me know how your planning goes and what the reactions from your guests are to these ideas.. I'm still pretty early in my planning and am along the same lines. I'm thinking a cocktail hour the night before then a reception cocktail hour/hordourves after the ceremony then out for some clubbing/drinking/gambling with those interested.

    Thats what were doing Daniela. Were having ours in the afternoon at Ceasars, then going for lunch as well :) Then going out that night for anyone that wants to join us.
