To send wedding invitations for a Maui wedding??? **I am new to this site**

Hello everyone,

I will be getting married June of this year in Maui.
I have let my family and friends know of our wedding plans via-phone calls or text. Reason being to give them much needed time to plan and book they stay. I PLAN on sending SAVE THE DATES to ALL family and friends but my question is do I send the ACTUAL wedding invite to ALL those family and friends even if they will not be going to Maui?
I have been given yes's and no's from family and friends about attending our wedding via-phone calls or text.
Do I waste money on sending everyone invites or do I just send them to those who have said yes??
HELP!!!! I can't make up my mind! Any suggestions will be great!
Thank YOU!

  • Hello from a fellow June Maui bride! I *believe* etqiuette says you should send invitations to those you want to invite, but know cannot make it, however I think it is really a judgement call on your part.  I was very much in the same situation as you, I let people know in person about the wedding, received some "yes" "maybe" "no" answers and told them them regardless the save the dates are coming.

I just sent out invitations (they were really basic and directed people to our wedding website where all the detail will gradually make it on there) and I ended up sending them to everyone.  That being said, there were 8 invitations to send out (very small wedding!) and I got them from Vista Print for $1.50 each, so I didn't mind.  If I were paying more for them I might give it more thought, but at the same time I still think I'd want those people to have a wedding invitation to at least have as a keepsake, even if they can't make it due to budget reasons or whatever the reason may be.

When I was reading whatever etiquette article it was, a point was also made that those "no" people may change their mind, so it might be a good idea to send them out just in case.

  • I should say...the content of our wedding invitation was basic...I actually thought they turned out quite pretty!! Smile
  • Thank you NotteeCharlie!!!
I am leaning towards sending them out to everyone. You have a good point about people changing their minds, I do need a head count for dinner! :)
I've been looking online and the prices aren't that expensive for a basic design.
    Thank you for your help!!

When in June are you getting married? Our date is set for June 14th :)
    Congratulations to you both!!
    :)
  • I plan on sending invites to everyone, regardless of yes or no's that I've been getting.

I am also a June Maui bride...the 16th at the Olowalu Plantation House. What about you mzargo?
  • We are June 20th! Congratulations to you two as well!
  • I agree with NotteeCharlie , etiquette does say to send the invitation to everyone that you want to invite or want to be there. Then you get their formal answer. Like everyone said above, people can change their minds and things can change for people in their lives too. Someone could be pregnant and doesn't want to travel, someone could loose their income and end up not being able to make it. So yeah i would send the invites to everyone and get the proper count.

I'm not saying email/text/phone call isn't an actual count but I know when I send out a text regarding something you could get a half hearted answer. The actual invite in their hands could 'oh she was serious' lol

Sorry just my experience =) have fun!!!!!!

  • I would definitely send invites to everyone that received a Save the Date, even if you know they can't join.  I added a hand written note in all of those that said something like:

We know you aren't able to come, but in the event that things change, we would still love to have you join us in Hawaii

This let them know we weren't 'ignoring their declines' but also that they were still welcome.
