My Experience With Jeanine Mangan

I'm aware that she has allot of fans on here and I'm not going to criticize her work but I want to relay my experience with her so those of you who are considering hiring her are aware.

I live in FL. but my wedding is in NY.  She knew I was going to be in NY for a short time when we scheduled my trial.  She also knew that I had an engagement photo session  immediately following my trial with her.  My trial was for 9:30 AM.  At 10:50 the night before she emailed my wedding planner and canceled.  Her reason was that she had a photo shoot that went over to the next day.  I'm just glad I found out how unreliable she was before I booked her for my wedding.

    She did the same to a friend of mine, she changed the times on the day of her wedding last minute so she could do another wedding.

    Love USER's comments.....straight to the point. Commitments are commitments. We understand that she's in high demand, but how would she feel if the bride totally flipped plans on her last minute. You wouldn't hear the end of it

    I heard from multiple girls there that Jillyan Scarpa canceled on them for their weddings a week or too before (due to an emergency), and substituted someone else she works with.

    It must be fate to see this post today.  After trials with many different MUAs including Jeanine and Jill, I can't decide.  And I met another tonight and loved her too.  So now there is a lot to consider... all feedback is greatly appreciated. 

    EDIT - I just want to say that I actually loved my trial with both Jeanine and Jill for different reasons.  They are both so talented, listened to my requests and created an amazing look.  I am not sure what is making me unsure - it might be the stress of the wedding planning as I can't decide about cocktail music either... this is so important that it can't go wrong!!

    I am using Jeanine Mangan and I have had a great experience with her so far.
    I think comparing canceling a trial and not showing up for a wedding is a bit unfair in my opinion.

    Cindy- I heard one person say Jilyan cancelled for an emergency, but never multiple people- are there links to other posts saying this? if so Id like to see them as it would effect my booking her Thanks

    Jill told me that she needed to 1 time fly out of state due to a family emergency   (I believe it was a death in the family).  She gave her client as much notice as she could and had someone go in place of her.  That could happen with anybody you book.  Jillyan has been beyond great to work with.  She's gone out of her way numerous times to do my makeup for me.  I love her work and am so happy I found her.

    I agree, emergencies happen, my sister was in the salon one day and she went to a wedding really sick - she called the bride first and gave her the option - and from what I heard she was really sick and still went. She also opened her shop for me on a Sunday night for my "emergency" reshoot for my e-photos. I remember a bride on here posting that Jillyan sent a replacement to her wedding due to a family emergency and the bride was completely fine with the results of the woman who filled in for her. Not sure if I saw this by multiple people though, just the one.

    Just to clarify:  She sent an email 10:50 at night and canceled for a 9:30 trial knowing I had a photo session following.  She said it was for a photo shoot (although today I got an email from her saying it was for a death in the family so I don't know which story is true).  She offered no one to take her place and left me scrambling to find someone else at midnight who charged me $125 because it was last minuet and I didn't even like the makeup and just hope my pictures come out ok.

    I don't remember the exact threads, I think one of the girls had PM'd me. i can remember 3 separate incidents. Maybe if you search the board for her name you can find them? I'll see what I can find.

    Jeanine did my makeup for my wedding last June. She was more than an hour late and that created a huge snowball effect. Because of that, there was no time to take  family photos before the ceremony, so those got pushed to after the ceremony, when we were supposed to take extended family photos, which never were taken. I have no photos of any cousins or Aunts and am still disappointed.  Our photos at Monmouth University were so late, the shuttle (which took my BP) was too late to pick up my guests at the hotel, and they had to scramble for rides at the last minute. My photographer was furious at her and indicated this is not uncommon for her.

    I loved Jeanine's work, but because of how she screwed up the timing of our wedding day, my sister, who's getting married this December, won't use her. And she's the only vendor of mine she's not using.

    OP - So sorry to hear you had a bad experience with her. 

    I can't make any excuses or explain why she did what she did as I obviously don't know the full story, but for anyone waffling about whether or not to use Jeanine, I'll just throw my two cents in.  I went for a trial with her and she was absolutely wonderful.  My makeup came out better than I could have hoped for and she was a total sweetheart.  Also, I've been in contact with her every couple of months since the trial because of various changes I've had to make and she's been 100% accommodating and understanding.

    Again, I'm so sorry you went through what you did, but as I'm sure you can tell from the posts above (and from other threads) that mention issues with other MUAs as well, there are, unfortunately, always going to be girls who have bad experiences with every vendor out there for one reason or another.

    Wow it sounds like just from reading this thread that Jeanine has a lot of family emergencies around weddings and trials!!  From the reviews I have seen on this post alone why would you want to risk it!! 

    For the girls who already booked her I would be calling her up today and expressing my fears of her cancelling last minute.

    I used Jeanine for my wedding and never had a problem. I recommend her to everyone and still would. I don't think anyone who has booked her as anything to fear. I don't see anywhere that she has doesn't show up or cancelled someone's wedding.

    I just wanted to put my 2 cents in.  I went to a trial with Jeanine and didn't wind up booking her for various reasons.  I just wanted to note though, that for example I went to see a photographer who I thought was highly recommended here, it turned out it was just one person recommended him very enthusiastically everywhere on the board.  Another one, a videographer, turned out to be REALLY weird when we went to see him.  So just be careful on taking recommendations here!

    I had booked Jeanine for a trial, then the night before she emailed me, canceling because someone supposedly switched their september dates to mine so she was no longer available....

    I am now booked with Gina Brozon who was fantastic during the trial and has been fantastic with communication and accommodating a weekend trial.

    I was also going to use Jeanine but she was already booked. I am glad she was because now I am using Gina Brozon had a trial with her she is amazing, sweet and listens to what you want. If you don't lik something she will change it to exactly what you are thinking of. 

    I am soo happy I have Gina as my make-up artist for my wedding.
