Milwaukee's Third Ward Reception

Has anyone held or been to a wedding reception in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward?  I'd like to have my reception somewhere there because of the old charm... but haven't heard much.  Any suggestions?

Cuvee would be a possibility for that. Its a champagne bar in the 3rd Ward and is nice, a bit expensive but amazing lounge atmosphere. There is also the Skylight Theater down the street but I think solely for ceremonies. And we are having our reception at the Milwaukee Public Market.

Joey Buona's is also across the street from the market and I guess could be considered borderline to the 3rd ward

    Good luck!

I read an article a few months ago about a wedding held in one of the old buildings in the Third Ward that was really cool, but I can't find it now.

These two restaurants host events though:

    Swig

    Water Buffalo

I don't know how big of a wedding you want to have, but everyone I know that has been to The Palms really likes it:  http://www.palmsbistrobar.com/

Cuvee is absolutely fabulous--but extremely expensive and, in my experience, poorly managed. No space is beautiful enough to work with the nut-jobs running that place.

Swig has a really cool event space, I think the Palms does as well...Ditto on Milwaukee Public Market and Joey Buona's. The Italian Community Center is located in Third Ward as well, but doesn't necessarily have the historic vibe that you might be aiming for.

One really unique venue for a wedding reception in the 3rd Ward is the Eisenhower Museum of Advertising.  It's an awesome space and really fun!

I heard that the Eisner was closing and wasn't accepting anymore bookings, so you may want to think about that. I am having my wedding @ Cuvee. Yes, it is pricey, and the managment needs to have a fire lit under their asses, but it is gorgeous. Also, they do a lot of wedding there. The vendors they work with know how it can be and are a great help in the communication department. Good Luck!

    *Eisner

Aye!  It's been one of those days!

From what the pp mentioned that would be something to look into, I had just peeked at their website for the space rental page and didn't find any message regarding the no more bookings, etc. so their website may not be up to date if that's the case.

I also heard the Eisner was closing. However, even if its not, we were incredibly irritated with the multitude of charges you had to pay-- i.e. $50/hour for security.

We did give up on Cuvee when our calls weren't returned and they seemed to have no interest in us despite the fact that we'd be forking over $2000 for the space!

MIAD is converting the Eisner space into student housing...what a waste.

We looked at Joey Buonas and really loved it - the atmosphere in their upstairs hall space is very classy and historic-looking. It was a little too small for our guest count though so we didn't go for it. I thought the prices were really reasonable too.

You might want to try Milwaukee Ale House... it has good food and the atmosphere is great. Plus they have that outdoor area which would be really nice! I used to love going there when we lived downtown...

Eisner is closing.  They are only honoring events that were booked before they announced their closing earlier this year.

In my opinion, Joey Buonas is average italian food.  It's about as just as good as Olive Garden for me.

We looked at Cuvee.  EXTREMELY expensive.  The hall is an awkward shape and would be better for maybe a cocktail reception.  Not worth the money in my opinion.

LOVE Water Buffalo and Milwaukee Ale House.  :)

Ohmygoodness!  Thank you everyone for your info - you've been such a huge help!!  I called Cuvee and got an info packet and they are extremely expensive (as everyone said) but I'm going to give it a look tomorrow.  Called Water Buffalo too (that's where we got engaged) but they said they don't do wedding receptions?

I'd check on the Ale House, I don't know that they host private events like a reception.  We wanted to host our rehearsal there and they said they could give us the lower room, but it would still be open to the public coming in from the river and overflow from the bar upstairs.

I am pretty sure that the Ale House in Grafton location you might be able to rent the upstairs space.  (Obviously not in the 3rd ward though)

I held my reception at The Palms.  Amazing experience.  There wasn't a rental fee, and they worked with us to estimate cost, then set our food and beverage minimum based on what we planned to spend.  Michelle was great to work with, and remembered us when we came in for a drink on our anniversary.
We said goodbye to our baby on November 16th...
