August 2012 Weddings

too early to register?

Fiance finally has a Saturday off for the first time since Xmas- and before that he hadn't had one since October.
So we are excited to spend the entire weekend together :)

WE are going to a cake tasting at noon on Saturday.
He asked me if I wanted to go register after...

Is it too early to register?
My shower is June 9th so invites will likely go out the last week of April.

Re: too early to register?

  • I already registered. We will add items and edit as needed as the shower and wedding approach, but no, I don't think it is too early.

Especially for items that are not seasonal, for example we registered for our dishes at Crate & Barrel--they ALWAYS carry those so we know they won't sell out or be discontinued before the wedding. Same thing with appliances, silverware, etc.

  • We registered before we sent out our save-the-dates.  We plan to update again before my shower in June, and then check after the shower to see where we may need to add items before the wedding.

  • I don't think it is too early to register. You will just want to maybe keep an eye on it so you can update your registry.  We plan to register soon here also and yet we don't have set dates for any of our bridal showers yet.
  • Nah girl, I've already registered at 4 places: Target, Macy's, Williams-Sonoma, and Kohl's!  Go for it!!
  • Nope its not too early, we've already registered for a few things. We'll be going in for another round in the spring sometime, but I think you are just fine for a first pass. Have fun!!

  • We registered in November, almost right after we got engaged.  Our family got us gifts off it for the holidays and sometimes we buy things for ourselves - we keep it as a shopping list.  It's not too early, as long as you check to make sure things don't get discontinued and you miss out.

Why it might help... We registered for glasses and got a few sets.  They are very fragile and break in the dishwasher or just moving them, so we switched the kind we registered for and cut our losses.  It was helpful because we can now get better ones.
  • Nope, not too early! We just started ours about a week ago. We still need to choose a second place to register, and if we find things we'd rather have that are similar (like a set of glasses or something), we will remove from the first registry, and put it on the other one. But we did cover most of our bases with the first registry, although there are still a couple of things I want to add to our second that I didn't to our first.

  • ok i am glad to see so many people already registered! And you guys make good points.
Plus I feel like AS soon aspeople get a shower invite they usually run out and get something so they have their pick of the litter...and I would assume mine are going out late April so it gives me a few months to organize my list, add or remove items.

  • I'm just starting to register now.  I think I'm a bit on the early side, but it's not too early, per se.  As others noted, I don't think it matters much when you register as long as you keep an eye on it in case items get discontinued.

Maybe I'm crazy but I am waiting until April. I am not sure if I even want a bridal shower and if I do have one I don't expect it to happen until June. I am considering going to register in April on my birthday (happy birthday to me!).  We needed more important things like toothpaste and garbage bags for Christmas so there was no need to register early.
