Ideas for readings?

Hi everyone! So I'm going to meet with my priest later this month to talk about the ceremony and everything, and I was wondering if anyone had favorite readings for weddings. I'm trying to do research to find ones that my fiance and I will like. We're not having a mass as he's not a Catholic (non-denominational christian).

Re: Ideas for readings?

  • We're using:

    First Reading Ruth 1:16-17

    Responsorial Psalm Ps 34: 2-3, 4-5, 6-7

    Second Reading I John 4:7-12

    Gospel Reading John 15: 9-16

  • We used Song of Songs 2:8-10, 14, 16; 8:6-7 for the first reading, responsorial psalm was

Psalm 128 "May the Lord Bless us all the days of our lives.", secon reading was Colossians 3:12-17, and the gospel was John 15:9-12

  • Genesis 2:18-25 and 1 John 4:7-21 are two readings where as soon as I read them, I knew they would be the readings for our wedding. Nothing like that has happened with gospel or psalms, but we obviously still have plenty of time. I really like Erin's choice for a psalm, I'll have to check that out.

  • Yesterday's reading was John 4:11-18 and I loooove it.

  • We similarly didn't do a full mass as my husband is not catholic. Here are the readings we chose:
    Reading 1:
    Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

    Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
    But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
    Though one may be overpowered,
       two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

All Repeat: Thanks Be To God

     Reading 2: 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:8A

    Brothers and sisters:
Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.
But I shall show you a still more excellent way.
If I speak in human and angelic tongues
    but do not have love,
I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy
    and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge;
if I have all faith so as to move mountains,
but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away everything I own,
and if I hand my body over so that I may boast
but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind.
It is not jealous, is not pompous,
it is not inflated, it is not rude,
it does not seek its own interests,
it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing
    but rejoices with the truth.
It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.
    Love never fails.
    The word of the Lord.

All Repeat: Thanks Be To God

    Gospel: John 15:9-12

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.

    Now remain in my love.

If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love,

Just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

    The gospel of the lord
