    Hey trueleo818
Ya its a very nice idea.
Are you serving indian food?  i've read that indian food is served best when hot/heated...so they say a buffet line is best...but not 100% about that.

Family style would be awesome!  It's a little more formal than buffet style and the big plus (as mentioned in the post) no long lines waiting for food!!  Especially if you have a big guest list.  I kind of want to do family style but both our venues recommended against it since we're having some outside catering.

Nope, Indian food will not be served. =(
BUT we'll be having Thai food and as for dessert- sri lankan cake and sweets.

True, you and I are thinking so alike, I had saved this pictures this morning because I want to do a family style dinner. LOL. I  finally knew I wasn't crazy since I was thinking about doing the same thing, but I wasn't sure it existed.  It's awesome!!!

We're having outside catering as well. We didnt want to do a buffett line because then we'd have to set up 2 different tables and it was just going to be complete chaos. Family style on the other hand, will be an icebreaker in my opinion for guests who dont know each other. did that make sense? hahha

Me too Bhanu!  I loove Thai food.  Invite me to your wedding True lol  Having the family style dinner will definitely be a little more intimate.  Let people have the chance to talk and get to know the people they're sitting with and get more comfortable.  Makes a lot of sense.

I love Thai food. I order it once a week, I am ashamed to say! I think it will be a big hit with the Indian side. Everytime I go to a Thai restaurant, it's filled mostly with Indians. I also like the family style dinner. Kind of in between a formal plated dinner and a buffet.

I love family style dining and it's really common in the UK - which I appreciate.

However, my Mom went to a wedding where above it, there were candles...which melted INTO the food. The Bride and Groom must have not thought that bit over. The food really wasn't something people indulged in at this multi million dollar wedding in London.

    Aw, thanks trueleo!

SonaliPop - jeez, multi million dollar wedding? Do you ever watch that show, Platinum Weddings? It makes me sick, so I stopped watching.

Yeah, that show makes me kind of jealous but mosty angry.

I can't walk around with half of that crap knowing the things I say about waste and being ridiculous with money. Then again, I know I won't get that crazy even if I have the chance. The desi in me and the person who watches movies about children in Africa and cries over them can't possibly have a million dollar wedding!

Last night, I was on a Sri Lankan orphanage site...and I cried. I woke FI up and told him that I'm sponsoring a child. So when we go there in July, I get to meet her and possibly sponsor some more. It breaks my heart to see them with no parents. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cry.gif" border="0" alt="Cry" title="Cry" />

I just wanted to let you guys know that we just had our wedding and we did family style. It was great because people got a little bit of everything (not just steak or chicken) and they got as much as they wanted. It was great!
