‎"9/11/01 ... We all remember what we were doing that day. Where we were and who we were around. Like our parents remember where they were when JFK was gunned down and like out grandparents remember where they were for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Although it was 11 years ago it seems like it was just yesterday we had the TV on watching tragedy unfold. On this day we remember the lives that were lost. The 343 firefighters and the 23 police officers that died that day and the thousands of innocent people killed. God bless them, our military, those that are still suffering and most of all, God bless America. Never forgive, never forget."

So I found this quote and I just wanted to share it in honor of this day. I know it's been so long ago, but I remember EXACTLY where I was when the 1st tower was hit. I'll never forget the feeling I had when finding out we were being attacked. I live in NY, so it hits very close to home, as I'm suer it does if you live near the Pentagon or areas of those 2 plane crashes.

Does anyone else emember exactly where they were and what they were doing when it happened?

I also know there are some ladies on here who have FI's in the Military, Army, Navy, Marines, etc, and I would like to ask you ladies to send your men or anyone that you may know in your life) a sincere thank you from me for fighting to protect our freedom. And if any of you know police officers or firefighters, send them a thank you too for keeping us safe everyday. My dad was a NYC cop, thankfully retired by the time of 9/11. Lots of respect for what they do.

Ok, enough sad stuff, we have great fall weather here, and I hope everyone can enjoy their day despite what happened. And happy birthday Nyrobia!!!!!

I was in elementary school when it happened. I was watching it on television. I left my classroom went down and hugged my little sister, and my mom showed up in her classroom and pulled us out of school that day. My mother's a nurse and told us that she might have to go down to NYC to help tend to people and help them search for survivors. Later that day I was told that a little girl lost her parents in the building, and she didn't have any other family and that we might be taking her into our home and adopt her. Unfortunately I think she was sick I don't quite remember, but she never made it up to us. I live in NYS so it was very shocking that something happened so close and it was an eye opener as a child. My grandfather is a fire fighter and went down to help search for survivors as well... It's a tragedy what happened.

I was in my 8th grade band class when I found out. I saw the second plane hit the towers and I watched when it collapsed. Our administraters wouldn't let us watch anything that was happening. I lived about an hour and a half from the Shanksville, PA. So it was a big thing for us. As soon as I got home I watched all the coverage the rest of the night. So many thoughts were running through my head... who are these people, why were they doing this and then i thought about the families that lost loved ones on that awedul day! In fact I stayed up until 2 am watching documentaries of that day and still didnt want to go to bed but knew I had too.

Yup! I remember that moment vividly when I found out what happened. I was in Science class in HS and our teacher just left randomly so we eventually left and went down to the Caf and it was on all the TVs there and throughout the school. It was also eerily quiet that day.

Even though I don't live near any of the sites (I'm Canadian) it was still something that impacted us all.
I couldn't imagine what you guys (and those) who live near the sites would've thought/felt.

I had started my day teaching my kids when my mother called and said in a very grave tone so unlike her, "Julie, you really should turn on your tv." It was so unlike anything I had ever experienced, watching all that unfold in front of us as the hours went on. My husband was still in law enforcement at the time and security measures around our two local dams went into defense mode, not to mention just the general paranoia and fear of our whole area. The cops had to go into overdrive, putting in extra shifts to cover certain at-risk areas and checking out situations that citizens never would have thought twice about before. I don't think he got more than a couple of days off for the next six months or so.

I actually was in the hallway when I started noticing miniature moments, like they do in the movies. I was headed to the 8th grade wing of my school, I saw a math teacher barreling down the hallway (I later found her sister worked at WTC) students being escorted places (parents had been collecting their children). I never made it to class when we were all required to go to the cafeteria, and passed the hoards of parents by the 6th grade and 7/8 grade offices. We all hopped back on the buses that conveniently had just finished their morning routes. I got home 10 minutes after the 2nd plane had hit, my dad was crying because he couldn't get the image of that second plane hitting out of his head, he was watching live as it had happened. And together we sat staring at the tv, watching as the towers fell, finding out about the pentagon, and then flight 93.

My work outside of grad school is directly a result of the aftermath of this day eleven years ago, and I know on base today there will be little work done as the sores are still as fresh as ever. This is why I am going to school, what my scholarship is all about, I am devoting my life's work to the warfighter.

I was getting ready for work when the first plane hit and had just arrived at work when the second plane hit. Everything after that was just bad news on top of bad news and nothing got done at work that day. We all just sat clustered around a tv. The one image that still first comes to mind when I think of 9-11 is watching people jump from heights too high to survive just to get away from the flames and horror in the Towers. I understand now how parents and grandparents felt after hearing about those horrible events during their lifetimes.

I was in my 9th grade science class. People kept stopping by our classroom and our teacher kept going out in the hallway. Eventually they turned on the tv and we watched as the second plane hit. We pretty much just watched the coverage all day at school, and I continued to watch it as I got home. Today is also my mom's birthday, and when this all happened she said her birthday is now always going to be thought of as a sad, heartbreaking day. It is, but we still try to make it special for her.

I had just started my freshman year of high school and was walking to homeroom when a senior I knew from the varsity soccer team shouted out "Holy $hit we're going to war." I was beyond confused and went into homeroom and we had tvs in most of the classrooms so we watched it in homeroom, then I had biology and we watched it in there too. One or two of my teachers that day tried to teach the lessons they had planned for the day but not many. I was there the full day and after my parents picked me up we talked about it a little. We went to pick up my younger brother from elementary school and they didn't tell the students anything about what was going on so he had no idea. It was a quiet day at school that day for sure.

I was sitting in my eighth grade classroom after the planes had hit when my math teacher started addressing the rumors that had been going around. I had been in wood shop in the basement hadn't heard anything. A couple people left right away (one girls father worked there but he had a dentist appt). They tried to keep our normal schedule and didn't want the teachers putting on the tvs but most of the teachers ignored them. I saw the towers fall in math and we just talked about it for the rest of the day from class to class. I remember coming home and being shocked that my dad was home in the afternoon and watching tv. i think thats when it really started hitting me. For my FI, it soldified his decision to joing the marines after he graduated. He even had his mom sign a release at 17 so he could do delayed entry while still in highschool.

I was in 10th grade, social studies actually. They didn't put it on the TVs or tell us anything which I think is terrible, we were hs kids. I knew a plane hit, but it wasn't until I called my mom to say practice was cancelled that she told me what really happened. Her and my dad were off that day, my mom sickand my dad retired,and they watched all the live coverage. I can't imagine what it was like being there.

I was in 12th grade, sitting in class, when the phsyics teacher came running in, turned on the TV, and ran back out. I grew up about an hour away from Shanksville, and we had no idea what was happening. After the plane crashed there, we kept seeing military jets and helicopters flying overhead. I remember spending the rest of the day in the band room with my best friend. Her grandparents and aunt and uncle lived near Shanksville, and I have a close relative who works for the State Dept. in D.C. We sat there, taking turns using my cell phone, trying to reach her family and mine to make sure everyone was okay, but we couldn't get through to anyone. I had to work that night, and there was absolutely no one in the restaurant. The entire day was like an out-of-body experience. I knew what was happening, but my mind just couldn't wrap itself around what I had seen on TV.

One of my coworkers sent an email to our department saying that a small plane had hit WTC. A while later, she said that a second plane had hit and a bomb went off at the pentagon. We didn't have internet access at work, only email. Somebody had her mother put the phone up to the tv and we listened to it on speakerphone. Our boss went home and got a black and white tv.

My son was in 1st grade. When I picked him up that night, the day care lady, who had known me for 2 years, checked my ID before she let me take him home. I remember listening to the radio in the car, and every channel had news on it. That was really scary.

I feel really young right now.

I was still in elementary school, fifth grade to be exact. I was a school patrol officer and was stationed at the crosswalk right in front of the school that morning. A classmate of mine named Nathan got to school and told me a plane hit the WTC. Being a fifth grader in the middle of southern Illinois, I had no idea what that was. We had the TV on in class all day, and I remember watching the towers fall. It was hard to understand it all at that age, but I learn more and more about it every year.

I was in eighth grade science class when I found out. A few kids were starting to talk about how parents were coming to take kids out of school. The following period, in English class, we were allowed to watch the news and the principal made an anouncement over the PA to tell everyone what had happened. Being from NY made it all the more real and scary too. I feel really humbled that I managed to go down to NYC for my 18th birthday and see ground zero.

A huge thanks to all you ladies whose FI's and families serve in our armed forces.

Great Quote! Thanks to all of our service men and women! Today has been very emotional remembering 9/11 and being so thankful that my FI is now home safe from Afghanistan.

Even though I was only 11 I remember everything about that whole week so vividly still. My grandma funeral had been two days before so I was out in West Virginia with my mom and my dad and sister had just gotten on a flight home back to CA that morning. It was so scary waiting to hear from my dad to make sure they made it ok and just sat watching the tv all day. My mom and I ended up being stuck in WV for a couple weeks since flights weren't really happening. My dad, being in the army, volunteered to go help at ground zero within a week of it happening and then within a few months was deployed.

I was a freshman in college, at George Washinton U, in DC. My dorm was 5 blocks from the White House. I was still homesick (I had just moved there about 3 weeks earlier), I had just broken up w/my then boyfriend and this happened. I had no friends yet. I couldn't get in touch with my parents for hours; I finally got through to my mom on AIM.

It was scary being so close to the Pentagon. I saw it burning from my dorm window. I will never ever forget that day. I have blocked out a lot of the memories of that day because it was so traumatic and I was so lonely at the time.

I was a senior in HS. I was collecting attendance and saw it on the TV. My aunt flew out of Boston to NY that morning and at the time all we knew was that the plane left Boston. We couldn't get in touch with her for hours and thank god we finally heard from her that night. She was already in NY and saw the whole thing from a cab. My uncle also went to help with the rescue mission. It's. Day I don't think anyone will forget, and every year I watch the same documentaries.
