Ceremony Site

My fiance and I are not very religious so we don't want to have our ceremony in a church. Any creative ideas for where we can have the ceremony? I love the idea of an outdoor ceremony but the unpredictablity of the weather scares me.

Re: Ceremony Site

  • I know what you mean about an outdoor ceremony being nervewracking. I'm way too much of a control freak (I readily admit it) to ever be willing to have an outdoor wedding. The stress alone would kill me.

I don't know exactly where you're located but if there's someplace around you like a conservatory of some sort (we have several in the St. Louis area). Lots of plants and flowers that would give it the feel of an outdoor wedding while still giving you a roof over your head. And usually they're really pretty. Also, I've seen several pictures of people who had "country" weddings in rustic barns that turned out absolutely amazing.

    Good luck!
  • If you want an outdoor ceremony but are worried about the weather, then maybe you could find ONE venue for ceremony and reception that has both outdoor and indoor spaces that could be used for either purpose.  For example, we had our wedding at a vineyard.  The ceremony was outside, but we had the option of moving it inside the ballroom in case of bad weather.

    I would recommend looking at:

    - Vineyards
    - Botanical Gardens
    - Historic Homes
    - B&Bs
    - Museums
    - Parks
    - Restaraunts

Also, check out your local wedding board -- they may be able to help you with specific venues that will work for what you want.

We were gonna use a park but I want privacy. No lurking eyes on me from strangers.
