venue recommendations?

Hi all!
My fiance and I have been engaged for almost 2 years now. I just moved to Columbus a few months ago and we're just starting to plan for an October 2013 wedding, yay! :)

Does anyone have recommendations for memorable venues in the area?  We don't want to do country clubs or churches.

Some places we've been considering looking at so far:
-the vault
-dock 580
-the statehouse
-the art museum

we're not opposed to wedding/reception at a hotel.  basically we want something that isn't going to be insanely expensive, and we don't want the venue to feel stuffy.

any suggestions?
Thanks! :)

The Taylor Mansion. I hadn't heard of it until this week, but my mom was just at a wedding there and said it was fantastic, like one of the best weddings she's been to for a while.

If you're willing to go outside of downtown, I'd look at the Polaris Hilton and Brooshire in Delaware. We're using Brookshire, but Polaris was our second choice.

  • No no... Taylor Mansion is beautiful but you do not want to work with the guy who is basically the wedding planner there. We met with him because I really liked the venue but he was a total creeper, and I never could have worked with him! If I could give any advice, it would be to go with your gut feeling! My FI loved the place but even thought we could never do it there because of the "wedding planner" there.

We ended up choosing Via Vecchia winery and I absolutely love the rustic feeling there! Paolo and Michael are like familybest decision made!

  • Weird, I thought I was the only person who felt that the Taylor Mansion was a little off... Glad to know I am not crazy :)

We loved our venue--the Valley Dale Ballroom.  It is on the National Register of Historic Places and had acts like Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra perform there :)

  • Station 67 is another place you can check out. I ended up going with The Loft at Dock 580, mostly because The Venue was already booked.
