How Do I Choose a Band??

Any recommendations?

Our Wedding is at Duke on May 21st. Reception to follow at Bay 7. Liquid Pleasure- the only band we knew from NC- is already booked for our date.

We are looking for a fun band that plays all the motown/oldies classics, but will also play new hits.

Thanks for your help!!!

Kristy

My friend who got married last year had Rubberband play at their wedding. http://www.chuckfolds.com/rubberband.html Chuck Folds is in the band who is the brother of Ben Folds. They were a great! They were able to play lots of different kind of music. Also they really kept everyone up and dancing and having a great time from the bridal party to the grooms 90 year old grandmother!

Check out the NC Bride Bio (google it). I'm pretty sure there are a good amount of recommendations on there :o)

For motown/beach and to keep any age crowd really moving, you simply cannot beat the Craig Woolard Band. They are awesome - and Craig was one of the original Embers. Best. Wedding. Band. Ever. Another really really good band is Sleeping Booty Band. And yet, another one is Bull City Syndicate.

    Good luck.

There is a band out of Greensboro called the Dickens that plays everything -- current rap/rock and the older rock stuff.  Don't know about Motown thought.

Also we recently heard Evan Olson and Dana, who did play the oldies and new stuff.  I was looking at his Facebook page and realized he has had some pretty big hits that have been played in TV shows (The Hills, 90210, Sex and the City, etc...)  I saw on there that he plays weddings, so he would be fun!

I do not know if this is helpful or not, but have you considered using East Coast Entertainment? I have heard that you can explain the type of music you want and your music budget, and they select bands from there, and you can see them perform etc.

We decided to go with a DJ after all, so I didn't go too far down the band road- good luck!

We got the Tsunami Wave Riders out of Charlotte to come and play at our wedding.  They are an awesome band and we are so excited to have them playing.  They are a Trop rock band, mean they are a tropical themed band (perfect for our beach wedding).  But what we loved about them was that they play a lot of other things: country, classic rock, and motown.  We told them Shout was a must play, and they were very excited about that.

We went with East Coast Entertainment--we wanted the Dickens, but couldn't afford it. We heard the Brothership play in college and loved them...and a HS friend had them play at her wedding in another state and gave a great rec. They sound awesome on the website too--just like I remember from seeing them several years ago!
