is there a way I can check how much space I have left on my camera card? I don't want to get on my HM and learn I don't have enough space on my card to take pics. Thanks!!

My camera shows in the corner that my card(4g) has 245/1000. (it changes on the resolution and the defination I have it set on). I would recommend having a second card. They are not that bad of price.

Coming from experience, just buy another one to have with you. I went to Europe for two weeks and used two memory cards on my digital camera. I took over 1,000 pictures/videos. If you take any videos, they take up more space and therefore skews the amount of space you have left.

Just buy another one and keep it in your bag/pocket/something. Trust me.

You can also connect it to your computer, right click, then select properties. It will show you a pie chart of how much is used. If you are more of a visual person.

Depending on the brand and the settings, your remaing count may or may not be displayed on the screen when in "picture mode." If not, go to menu > settings and dig around in there for picture settings.

I would also say why not empty that card onto your computer and then format it so it is completely clean for the trip? If you don't have a comp to do so, take somewhere and ask for a CD of all the images, but not the prints.

Lastly, get a backup. You never know when a card will crash or get full. Buying them in tourist places will cost you a fortune so getting an extra before you go is a great idea.

Can you tell I used to sell digital cameras? LOL

Exactly what Midge said. We have one that's like 16 or 24gb and then like an 8gb that we keep in the camera bag as back-up. I also would recommend a back-up battery if yours has a rechargeable battery. We have a point and shoot and a dslr camera and have 2 memory cards and 2 batteries for each camera just in case.

We always have at least two memory cards for each of our cameras (DSLR & point/shoot) with us. On vacations, I usually take our laptop too so I can load pictures at the end of each day. It makes me feel better in case the camera would get dropped or lost/stolen, plus then I have more room for pictures!
