too late for engagement party?

my finace and i got engaged beginning of december. my best friend/maid of honour will be returning from abroad shortly and asked me if i'd want her to host an engagement party for us. i'm super super thankful for her generosity, but, hesitant because since then we've had a milestone birthday party and christmas, so we've already got together with a lot of friends and family who have all given us their best wishes. in addition, have already received many gifts from people. 

i'm just wondering if it might be redundant? is there any point now that we're going on 3 months engaged and it'll be about 4 or 5 by the time we have this party?

our wedding is not until fall of 2013 - if it makes a difference.

any input is welcomed :)

    I don't see a reason why not...

    The engagement party is a type of announcement party and keep in mind that guests aren't expected to bring presents. Also, people invited to the engagement party will expect an invite to the wedding.

    We were engaged for 5 months when we had our engagement party; it was an opportunity for our families to meet, mix and mingle. The only non-relatives were our two best friends who live next door so it was a family affair - each is different.

    Have fun, but there truly isn't a reason you shouldn't have an engagement party at 5 months.

    i'm having one about halfway from being engaged to the wedding. it's because of distance between some family. i don't think it's a big deal.

    i agree its fine because your wedding is further off... Mines gonna be like 5 months from the date we got engaged because its the only time i'll be able to make it up to NJ to have one with all our friends and family up there.
