  I don't have any advice on a location, and I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but you really shouldn't be throwing yourself an engagement party. If someone offers to throw you one, then YAY! But don't host one for yourself.

  I think it's totally fine if you want to throw yourself an engagement party, as it sounds like it is nothing formal but a chance for you to shout out "I'm Engaged" and celebrate with friends.
  
  Andiamo in Novi has a great Martini Lounge they rent out, and if it's not a busy weekend/night they might be able to give it to you for cheap. They are flexible on food and beverage. Contact Rachael Love at rlove@andiamoitalia.com or 248-348-3838

  Ours was at Rochester Mills Brewery in downtown Rochester.  It was perfect, they reserved a huge section of tables for us, and there was also the option of renting a private room.

  I agree with vk that it is not proper etiquette to throw yourself an engagement party.  If you go on the E board and asked this question you would get very strong comments on how this just isn't proper. 

  
  

  With that being said I think it is fine to have a birthday party for yourself and you can certainly talk all about your engagement.

  I am not trying to be mean at all but I agree that it is not proper etiquitte to throw yourself an engagement party. Go search this topic on the E board, girls have been ripped apart over this before. We are strangers on the internet telling you this, so imagine what your friends would think. Also, congrats on your engagement! I would start with nailing down a ceremony location and a reception venue, those are the two most important things. I followed those by looking for a photographer, I dont know how long you plan on being engaged for, but I had photographers I contacted a year and 6 months before my wedding that were already booked- so dont put that off for too long.

It's mostly for my birthday but I don't have time to meet with each person individually that are asking to meet for drinks because of being busy with law school, so I thought what better way than pay for their drinks and have them come out for a fun night!   </div><div>While I thank you ladies for pointing out the proper traditional etiquette for engagement parties, I also didn't give much information other than I want it to be an informal celebration with friends for my birthday and our engagement. All I had really asked for was locations where I can do that. Without knowing any details other than a general statement of what is being planned, sometimes proper etiquette does not apply in all situations.
