Vegetarian Option: Fish vs. Pasta

Help - which would you prefer for a vegetarian option:

Teriyaki glazed salmon with fresh veggies and mashed potatoes
OR
Three cheese pasta with spicy tomato sauce, sliced olives and basil with salad

Please note revisions can be made to the dishes...this is just how the venue presented them to us.

Thanks!

Pasta... I love salmon but it tastes more fishy to me than some other types of fish. if that makes sense? I think more people would like pasta than salmon.

Uhm... if you're a vegetarian, you don't eat fish. That's the whole point of the term, right? That you don't eat meat. Those people whose only meat source is fish are called pescetarian.

    So... the pasta, by default.

Agree with Kaesha. I'm a vegetarian, I don't eat fish. If salmon was the vegetarian option, I would be really confused.

Pasta.  I eat fish but don't care for salmon and I think salmon is a very love-it or hate-it dish.

Yeah....cover your bases and go with the pasta.  For a truly vegetarian option the food can never have had a face.

I agree with the PPs. Plus the pasta is something that most people like and will be willing to eat. Some people are very choosy about their fish and will only eat certain kinds of fish. I know I am that way.

This. Fish is not vegetarian. It's an animal.

If your only choices were salmon, chicken and beef I wouldn't have something I could eat.

And I also think salmon is a love-it or hate-it fish.

If you go with the pasta, X the cheese as well. Vegans do not eat any animal product at all. Switch out the type of sauce and the pasta dish is your best bet.

Vegetarian =/= vegan, so the pasta, as it stands, is vegetarian.

wow I didnt even stop to notice that fish is not vegetarian. I just looked at the choices and chose the one I thought was more appealing to a wide range.  I feel stupid now!

no need to feel stupid... there are plenty of "vegetarians" who also incorporate some fish (i know, your not really a vegetarian then, but your far closer to a vegetarian than the average meat eater) and it confuses others....
but for clarity, fish is not vegetarian, as it is still meat.  i would go with the pasta.  i would skip the spicy sauce though as not everyone likes spicy stuff and go with a regular tomato sauce.  the cheese is fine.
if your getting the option because you have specific vegetarian guests in mind i would just ask them.  if your just getting it to have a general vegetarian option for anyone - the cheese pasta dish is good.
and thanks for even thinking to have a veg option at all - it's appreciated!!  :)

Agree with PPs - if this is a general vegetarian option, definitely not salmon.  If you have one or two people that you know are vegetarian, you could ask them what they prefer.  Our guest list was pretty small so we knew beforehand, and we just e-mailed the options to our two vegetarians and asked them what their top three choices were.

Pasta is your safest option but I would ask your veg friends to make sure that they really aren't vegan or have some type of dairy allergy. If you can check what kind of salad would be served and make sure that it is also vegetarian - I have been to a number of receptions with ceasar salads that have been premixed with the dressing... however ceasar dressing has anchovies in it so if you have strict vegetarians they will be out a salad : (

Fish isn't vegetarian.honestly I am a vegan who has a ton if just veg friends. If you tell people there is a veg option and it is fish well it isn't veg no matter what anyone tells you. It is fish which can be a fine option but it isn't a veg option.
