OBX Wedding Expo 2012

Has anyone heard anything about the Wedding Expo for 2012? We got the date from the association, but weren't sure of a schedule or anything like that.

They typically don't release any info until October I think.  Check-in is on Friday afternoon/evening at 2 local hotels.  Saturday is more of a explore on your own kind of day where you can just drop in to different venues, event homes, etc. and they will typically have a few different vendors at each location so you can meet them at one place instead of having to meet them individually.  Saturday night will be the big meet & greet (was at Pirate's Cove this year) that will have lots of foods to sample, photographer displays, DJ's, etc.  Sunday is the big expo that is between the elementary and high school will ALL of the vendors and the fashion show is around 1:00 and the dream wedding giveway is at the end of the day at 5:00pm.  It's a very fun and long weekend, but very well worth the trip.

We went down and the only meal we paid for was dinner on Friday night b/c everyplace you visit over the weekend, had samples of some sort so you stayed pretty full throughout the day.  Make sure you wear comfy shoes that weekend and I would go ahead and make some pre-printed labels ahead of time with your name, address and phone number for all of the different drawings so that way, you aren't writing your name over and over and over and over again....and over, lol.

It is a wonderful time and I would definitely do it again....

This sounds like an awesome way to sample the "local flavor" so to speak. Would be awesome to test drive everything before commiting to going in the fall of 2012.

OBX did they offer any hotel discounts for the future brides? Also is the wedding expo free or does one have to buy tickets? If one has to buy tickets how much were they the year you attended? (I'm guessing last year?) Just curious of the prices of hotels/tickets. I work in a bar so the weekends are my money nights, taking one off is like taking a whole week off work plus expenses :(

    Hi Zeb!

I'm not really sure about any hotel discounts since my sister and MOH handled all of that.  She was too cute...for Christmas she had 3 gift boxes wrapped identically with a big bow around them all.  One for me, mom and herself and it had 3 tickets to the wedding expo and matching pajamas for all of us to wear, lol.  I didn't know where we were staying until the day we arrived and she surprised me with a B&B stay at The Cameron House Inn in Manteo and let me tell ya, we had the time of our lives!  We were literally the only ones at the B&B that weekend, since it's off-season and all, and had a blast!

Once they release the info in October I think it is, I am sure they will have some local info on hotels.  If not, I highly recommend anything local instead of the Hilton or Holiday Inn type of commerical chains.  I am always a fan of supporting local obx businesses so I recommend the Nags Head Inn....I have a few others if interested too.  I think the tickets were like $20 or something, maybe even cheaper but definitely no more than $20.

It was a great time and we really accomplished a lot that weekend.  We only ate out 1 time while we were there and that was when we arrived on Friday afternoon....you are constantly trying samples of this and that at the expo itself,  and the different venues you can visit on Saturday during the self-guided tour has caterers and bakers there too, etc. so you will not be starved at all :)

Hey KSJ, what was the weekend they gave you for 2012?  I went to the site and only see the 2011 schedule listed.  I was thinking it would be fun to take my mom to :)

    Thanks!

It's usually the first weekend in January which will most likely be the 6th-8th of 2012....
