Ring prices on website

I have a pretty stupid question.

Basically, my boyfriend has given me the green light to pick out my own engagement ring.  He is a practical guy, and he knows that I have a lot of opinions about the ring that I am going to wear every day.  So far it's just online browsing, but I have found a few that I really like.

At any rate, my question is as follows.  If I see a ring on a designer's website, and it says Gold costs $X, Platinum costs $X and so on... is that price just for the setting? Or is that including the diamond as well? If the price includes the diamond, does it change according to the cut, clarity, etc. you choose?

Re: Ring prices on website

  • It depends on the website.  If it includes a diamond, it should have some information about the diamond as well, like a range for the size, clarity, etc., and in that case you wouldn't get to choose your own diamond.  Most likely what you're looking at is just for the setting.

After reading your response, I went back to the website with the ring that I liked.  I scrolled all the way to the bottom, and in tiny letters it said:

"All rings typically shown with 1ct center setting. Center stone is sold separately; not included in price. Price estimates shown are in U. S. dollars and subject to change without notice"

I wouldn't have seen that without looking for it. The prices are so high, I just assumed the diamond was included Wink

  • It truly depends on the website. Some designers sell settings and diamonds seperatly and others sell them together. If it's just saying the price of the metal, I'd venture to say that they're selling the setting.

Yes diamonds prices are based on cut, quality, size and clarity.
