Non-Biblical Readings

My fiance and I grew up going to church but aren't currently all that religious. My uncle is going to marry us.

Are you using any heartfelt readings that aren't biblical or religion related? If not, have you heard any that really touched you?

Thanks in advance!

    We are using the following:

  • We used three readings, all non-religous as our entire ceremony was non-religious.

    *Union by Rober Fulgham
*An expert from A Gift to the Sea by Ann Morrow Lindberg
    *Love Monkey by Edward Monkton

If you do a serch for "Non religious readings" or "Secular readings," you should be able to find quite a few. Good luck!

We are also using Union by Robert Fulghum
We also considered the Navajo wedding blessing and the Irish wedding blessing.

This website also has a directory of different types of readings...

  • We are using On Marriage by Kahlil Gibran.

We used A Lovely Love Story, also my Edward Monkton. My H had zero interest in marriage and lived in his own little world until we met, so it was fitting. We changed a few of the words to make it more personable.

  • These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.

These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
** I don't believe that old cliche that good things come to those who wait. I think good things come to those who want something so bad they can't sit still **
  • We are using excerpts from The House at Pooh Corner, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and possibly The Little Yellow Leaf. We wanted children's stories rather than biblical readings.
