Newly Engaged!

Hello, I'm Jess and I'm new here. Me and my fiance got engaged the day before Valentines Day this year and so far we haven't really started any wedding planning yet. We both want a fall wedding, and we like the date September 10, 2011 (9/10/11). We have started doing research and these are the places we like so far:

Celebrations at the Bay
Herrington on the Bay
Baltimore Museum of Industry
American Visionary Arts Museum
Ceresville Mansion

Anyone have feedback on any of these places? Plus any other suggestions are welcome. For an early Fall wedding that we'd like to have the ceremony and reception at the same place, preferably outdoors or in a tent. We are on a budget of course, and would like to stay in Maryland (Baltimore, DC and in betweenish). Were so excited to get this wedding planning started even though we have over a year to wait until the big day!

Welcome and Congratulations!  I'm Dawn and my FI is Matt and we're getting married this October 8th at the Antrim 1844.
Out of all those venues, we only looked at one-Ceresville.  Honestly-we LOVED it!  It was absolutely beautiful, they were so organized, and everything just seemed like it would fall into place nicely there.  It was our 2nd choice and the only reason we picked Antrim over Ceresville is because the Antrim has rooms for guests to stay in and we have a ton of out of town guests.  We were going to look at both Celebrations and Herrington but decided we wanted a more "fallish" wedding-not on the water.  But I remember looking at those pictures and they were beautiful!

Welcome and congrats! I'm getting married at the BMI in August of this year and I'm super excited about it! You have the option of getting married outside right on the water or just off to the side in the pavillion.  Plus cocktail hour can be outside, and there are great photo ops both inside and outside.  Personally I wanted a unique place that had the feeling of being both in the city and on the water and the BMI captures that perfectly.  The museum itself itself isn't cheap, but since you can choose your caterer, you have the opportunity to save that way.  Plus the museum doesn't need much in the way of decorations.  I knew from the beginning I wanted the BMI, so I don't know alot about the other places - but good luck planning!

Congratulations!!! Like pp, I didn't check out any of those venues ( mine is in 9 days at Antrim 1844), but when I was doing research on venues, I remember being impressed with all of them, especially Ceresvile...good luck!!

Congrats and Welcome.  I don't have much info on those venues.  I LOVE Herrington... well the pictures because I have never been there.  I was not introduced to it until after I booked my venue.

Rands - Your wedding is so close!!!!!! How exciting!!!

Congrats and welcome!  We were looking into the Ceresville Mansion, but picked another venue in the end.  We felt it would be too small the number of guests we were having and it was an hour away from our house - we ended up deciding to stay in Howard County.  HTH!

I have nothing to add about the venues but I want to say congratulations and welcome!

I looked online at Cersville and it looked beautiful, but it was a bit out of the way for most of the guests. We loved Herrington but it was out of our budget (I have more details if you want to email me).

FI's sister got married at Celebrations and that was very pretty.

If your considering mansion type places with outdoor settings, have you looked at Gramercy Mansion?

I am a little biased since thats where we picked, I think what actually sold me was that in the event of rain thebakc up plan was still beautiful and may of the outdoor places we looked at had not so ideal rain plans.

Thank you everyone!  and Hi Andrea :)

All of your suggestions and advice are very helpful. I think the venue right now that were leaning towards is Celebrations at the Bay. Were going to plan a visit there in the next week or so and get some more info and discuss budget. I originally fell in love with Swan Harbor Farms, but its a little too far from Columbia. Were really early on in the planning since the wedding isn't for over a year but its never too early to book the venue! I'm also thinking of looking into some hotels in the Inner Harbor area and Annapolis. Thanks again everyone!

Hi!  I got married at Ceresville in May 2009.  I absolutely loved it.  Like pp said, they are super organized.  They have an online planning tool that is really helpful and allows you to be in constant communication with your coordinator.  You can read my review in my bio - the "Mrs" link under my signature pic.  If you have any questions, you can email me at kimbrout at gmail dot com.
