Richmond Hall or Liberty View Ballroom?

Hello Ladies!  My daughter is looking for a reception site in Philly that is reasonably priced.  I spotted these two locations: Richmond Hall and Liberty View Ballroom.  Can anyone give me a review on either of these?

She is a history major, and has worked at a historical site so I think it would be great to find a venue with a historical connection.  Any other suggestions?  I don't think it will be a huge event- 200 guests tops.

thanks for your help!  :)

I went and toured Liberty View Ballroom. It is small. In fact I believe they max out at around 150 but in my opinion that would be very tight. Also, they have an exclusive caterer who starts around $150. That caterer was developing a lower price brand but I found that it would not meet my needs. Also, almost everything is extra. You rent the space from Liberty View and I believe that includes tables but everything else is through the caterer and everything we asked about (like a dance floor) was going to be extra.

I do not know anything about Richmond Hall.

I was looking for histroy as well and opted for The Down Town Club. I don't know what you consider reasonable for center city. But there is also the National Constitution Center which is the same caterer as the Liberty View but offers more space. Also, the Franklin Institute is beautiful when set up for a wedding.

What do you consider reasonable for Center City?  That will make it a lot easier to give suggestions.

A few more historic places that I've heard of as wedding venues are Please Touch Museum and the College of Physicians.  I have no idea what their prices are, though.

There are also a lot of great hotel spaces, but I don't know that they'd have the right historic flare that you're looking for.

Colonial Dames is the best of the "historical" places I've seen, but you would need a caterer (they have several recs). We found it affordable at the time, but the prices may have changed over 2 years. They have an outdoor courtyard and the woman with whom we spoke was really, really friendly. The drawback is they are limited to 125 people- may not be big enough for you.

Another is Stotesbury Mansion- slightly larger, gorgeous and historic. REALLY gorgeous.

I was not super impressed with Richmond Hall for the price. It's what could be a beautiful space that isn't maintained very well. I was distracted by the stains on the chairs and the broken ledge on the bathroom wall.

Agree w/Colonial Dames, if it had totally been up to me my daughter would have had her wedding there, but her fiance didn't like it.  Ck out places in Fairmont Park.  The one thinng I've heard about Richmond is bad parking (cars getting broken into during receptions).  I'm not familiar w/the area so not sure if was just happenstance or if it's a bad area to be in.  maybe someone from that area can give you a better idea (Or ck the older posts on the knot)

Hello:  Does the colonial dames have room for a dance floor with 125??
