I don't think now is too early but I would just be concerned about things being discontinued. I am not 100% sure if we are registering just yet but if we do end up making a small one we may do it in September or October.
I already registered. I wouldn't run out and register for things that are seasonal though, chances are they will be gone by spring! I plan on re checking my registry once a month starting in probably in December to make sure there aren't discontinued items on there. We registered for things in general- towels, cooking utensils, plates... nothing special.

I think the reason The Knot suggests registering because sometimes people give gifts when they hear about the engagement or receive a STD. So having a registry in place kind of gives them guidance early on about what to give.

We haven't registered yet. Ideally I'd like to do so before Thanksgiving. I don't want to be trying to register during the holidays (I'd imagine that to be a nightmare - and even worse for FI lol), but I also don't want to wait until after the holidays - especially as I am assuming I'll have plenty of other things to keep me busy and occupied.Though I don't want to register until we are settled in the house to see what we'd like to upgrade (dishes, etc) and what we can use and can wait for. So probably between mid-September - end of November.

That's a good point about the holidays. I would not want to be trying to register in a store with thousands of crazy gift shoppers and will certainly not want to be dealing with it within the last couple of months before the wedding, either. P.S. I see we have the same wedding date!
