Re: Retro/Vintage Poll--April

  • Hi all--I'm a newbie. And yeah, I think I finally found the right spot!

    What's your latest retro/vintage idea/inspiration?
I want to get married in my local diner. It's walking distance from my house. It's small, limiting the attendees and the budget nicely. It's also so right for me, and my family will get it and won't cause much trouble. I have a diner booth in my kitchen, and they've been buying me trinkets for years. And we love pancakes and meatloaf and that sort of thing. But: we haven't approached them yet and see if they'll do it, because....(see question 2)

What wedding-related project are you tackling this April?

We continue to track FI's process through the immigration hurdles. April will be 5 months, the "average" time for the visa. We hope to have to do the interview at the consulate this month--unless they shut down the government, of course. But we really can't plan anything until we have approval for him to enter the US. And then we have to move him + be married within 90 days, which limits a lot of options too. In the meantime I'm assembling pieces, which aren't too bad because we want it all to be quite simple.

No photos yet. But the other day we agreed to an engagement party in the UK for his family/friends who wouldn't be likely to make it over to the real thing. I hope we can get a photographer to do that event. And I am going to buy a retro-inspired-dress that resembles the cut of my wedding dress for that (love this reversible one: http://etsy.me/fjwySx ) and my crinoline will work perfectly for that too.

Can't say that I have much left to be inspired. Most things are really close to being done!

What wedding-related project are you tackling this April?
-- Working on our DIY photo wall. We have the frames & black/gold damask cloth to cover the wall with. I also have our props-- boa, top hat, and mustaches on a stick that I just made. We need to get our wood & tools and hopefully have a nice day to work outdoors.
-- Practicing our flower arranging since I'm DIYing that as well. I need to decide which configuration of flowers will work best and be good to our budget.
    -- Addressing Invitations

We did 1950s photos. They have nothing to do with our Victorian theme, but are really fun. Here are a few shots from that day.

I'm very into mustard yellow right now.  I think it's great because in the spring I always crave yellow in the home, and the colour is rich enough for the fall also.  In my eyes, it's a great year-round colour!  I recently made a "couch" for some extra seating in the livingroom.  I put some mustard yellow floor cushions on my antique trunk:

What wedding-related project are you tackling this April?
This month, I've been working more on the photo collages for our apartment. I have almost finished the one in the living room here, and used a mixture of wedding photos and engagement photos:

I also finished a simple one for above the bed, made from just engagement photos:

Our engagement pics were definitely vintage inspired.  We did our first shoot with a very 1920s/1930s style.  I wore a summer straw cloche, and Matt wore a bowler of his great great great grandfathers from the 1800s. The second set was less retro/vintage and more silly and fun.

  • Oh my gosh! I love all of the engagement shots. Thanks for sharing, ladies!

I am getting mine done this Saturday at an old movie theatre in St. Louis called The Tivoli.

    Here's the place:

And the box office of it:

I will post the actual shots of my photos when I get them.

  • We are also planning based on 1920/1930s vintage but are tying that in with a rustic, romantic outdoor Pacific Northwest theme. Super excited!!

What's your latest retro/vintage idea/inspiration? What wedding-related project are you tackling this April? Vintage hankies!! I love all things homespun and aquired some vin. hankies with crocheted or tatted edges and embroidered flowers. Combining them with family/friend photos to string up as pennant flags behind our gift table.

Also, creating beaded wire floral arrangers (hope mine look similar to this only adding art-deco charms, too) to fit over some of the Mason jars to keep DIY bouquets from shifting in case its breezy.

But most importantly, we are visiting what we believe will be our venue next week!!
