Tux vs Suit

  I am getting married in my grandparents  backyard. What is your opinion of a tux vs a nice suit. I know my FI would feel more comfortable in a nice suit which he can always wear again. For the cost of a tux, he could almost buy a nice suit. Should I wait until I pick out my dress, or does it not really matter. Thanks so much.

    I had the same dilemna and I went with what my husband would feel more comfortable in, I picked a suit.  The guys wore nantucket red pants/light blue shirts/vineyard haven ties with the Newport Bridge and Navy blue blazers.  Our reception was on the water in Newport so it was perfect!

    If your fiance' is in a suit, your gown should be simpler as well.  It still can be long but it should not be a full skirted ball gown; if he is a suit instead of a tux.

    we are getting married in Newport in Sept and my fiance preferred to wear a khaki suit instead of a Tux. I didn't pick my dress to match the fact if he was wearing a tux or suit. I don't think it matters. So whatever he feels more comfortable in and since it is in a back yard I feel like it would have a more layed back feel.

    I agree I don't think you should worry about matching it with your dress.  If anything I would say the venue would more likely dictate the suit or the tux but even then, it’s kind of a stretch.  I love the way a nice suit looks.  We went with a silver/grey suit and the guys all looked great and the spent about the same as they would have on a tux rental.   It’s all about your preference!

    My husband wore a navy Ralph Lauren suit; it fit his personality and the feeling of our wedding better than a tux - plus he got to keep it and has worn it a few times for work events. (Can't say that about my dress! Haha.) We got it at Syms/Filene's Basement in Massachusetts and it was $219, so not a whole lot more than a tux rental would have been.


    Like others have said, I wouldn't worry about it matching your dress, but the good thing is that it's likely you will have already bought your dress by the time he's looking for suits. Mine got his maybe a month before the wedding. It's so easy for guys!
