Feeling negative - vent :(

So, I've been looking at my pictures of my dress, and I'm starting to not know if it's the right one.  I bought it as a sample, so it's a few sizes too big - and it's at my house - so I can't really try it on to remind myself of why I wanted it in the first place. Maybe it's just because the pictures of me in it are kindof crappy... I don't know.  But I can't afford a new dress and now I'm kinda freaking out.  How could I have "known" it was the dress 6 months ago and not know now?  Ugh.

***hugs***  I also bought a sample dress back in January (10 more months+ to go for me).  I have doubts every now and then, mainly when I watch too much SYTD on TLC or look through too many bridal mags.  It will need alterations to fit (bodice taken in, cap sleeves added, and train shortened), but I got it for pretty cheap and it is the big, princess, ballgown that I've always wanted, and I also don't have the budget to buy an entirely new dress.

What exactly don't you love about it anymore?  If you get an amazing seamstress, you can make a so-so dress into a wow dress.  HTH

i still go through this.. wedding is not too far away.. honestly, it happens. the worst thign you can do is look at other dresses or think of all the negative things you think about yourself in those pics. Whenever I try on my dres, I always try to feel beautiful before so the pictures remind me why I love it. :)

I still wonder if I made the wrong decision but then I look at my dress and realize its perfect for me. :)

try to look at those pictures fondly. you purchased your dress very far out...

if you decide you hate it, you can always buy a second hand dress off craigslist or something? :) chin up!

mgoss228 - I was totally watching SYTD when I started having doubts!

I think the problem is that the dress is one that I never would have pictured myself in. All the pictures I was drawn to were of strapless a-line and this is neither of those things.

I think this is totally normal.  And if you're looking at a bad photo and it hasn't been altered, of course it doesn't look like you want.  That will make a huge difference.

Totally normal.  I think every bride goes through it.  Once you try it on again the feelings will come back to you.  If not, and you feel nothing for the dress you still have time to try to sell it and find THE ONE.

You should see a seamstress b/f buying a new dress.  After my first fitting, w/ a few pins I could finally see how dress is supposed to fit and it looked a million times better, especially in the bust.

Are you fairly petitie? I think that the issue may be that the torso is constructed for someone who just has a bigger frame. Taller, wider shoulders. I've run into that quite a bit trying on dresses. In all of their brilliance - because we are all 5'10" - many designers construct dresses for people in the 5'10" range. I think that with some alterations to make the bust area more petitie, it will fit your frame better. I think the problem you're seeing is that it's actually covering up too much skin in your chest/shoulder range. Like everyone else said, go to a seamstress and have it pinned. I think alterations will work wonders.

And, on the smiling front, people always look more beautiful when they smile. Even if they get chipmunk cheeks or have bad teeth. It makes you seem more fun, friendly, approachable, etc. Trust me, people are wayyyy more likely to comment about someone who never smiles than they are to say, "I know, that girl smiles like, all the time. Doesn't she know what hideous chipmunk cheeks it gives her?" Trust.
