Lighting?

I'm getting married in Vermont on August 20th.  Sunset will happen at 7:45pm. 

Assuming there's no rain, it'll be an outdoor wedding.  Ceremony starts at 4pm, followed by appetizers, dinner at 5:30 and dancing expected to carry on until at least 9pm.   We're expecting activities to take place under the tent (eating etc) and on the lawn (appetizers, dancing, etc)

The question... how much lighting will we need as the evening progresses?  Will a dozen string lights under the tent and strung outside and lots of votive candles on the table be enough?

Any other August brides have experience with this?

And... pray for clear weather!

    Is this a common venue for outdoor weddings?  Can you post on your local board to see if anyone has been to a wedding at this venue before and what the lighting situation was like.  If this is more of a backyard/private location kind of event, can you try to create the scene ahead of time to give you an idea.  Take the string lights outside at night and see how bright they really are.  Light the amount of votives you would plan to have on a table and see if they light up enough area around it.  This is kind of hard for anybody here to help with.  We don't know how much surrounding light there is or what you would consider to be bright enough.

    Also, I would look into what the moon will be like for your wedding, and try to do your test at the same phase.  Obviously it will be brighter at night during a full moon than a new moon.

    I think you should have more lighting...if it's dark and you only have a dozen string lights, I don't think that will be enough.  I went to a wedding that got really dark and cold, and they did not have enough lights or heat!

    Agree that you should try to test your site.

    I would do a lot of lighting, I am having mine in a tent while the venue supplies some lights, I am also doing candle-operas for all the tables.  I am possibly doing paper lanterns for the top of the tent.  

    I haven't thought about outside yet, I don't have any suggestions for that yet.
