Rehearsal Dinner - I'm confused?

I have been trying to get quotes from different restaurants for rehearsal dinner (we have a pretty large group, about 40+ people).

So far everywhere I have contacted the cost is more than the quotes I am getting for full service catering for 100+ people.

Sooo that said, does anyone know any good rehearsal dinner places in the Plano area? I want to avoid mexican food because we are serving fajitas at the wedding. Thus far all of the places I have contacted are over $25pp, I need it to be more like $10-$12pp.

We had our RD dinner in Cedar Hill. A little far from Plano, but it was $20 pp at a steakhouse called "The Ranch".

I've been to RD dinners at Spring Creek BBQ, but i'm not sure how much they run.

I remember this AMAZING place to eat in plano called Whiskey Cake. It had little areas that could fit your size party.

You should look for cute pizza or burger joints. Those will probably be in that budget range. I haven't been, but I've heard of Fireside Pies--maybe something like that would work.

Also, did you try somewhere like Maggianos or similar?

    Fireside is amazing, but expensive.

We did Spring Creek - it worked really well and was definitely the cheapest option!

    Good to know!

Also, the more I thought about it I wondered if you couldn't get away with a place that does family style dining? Italian or Chinese. Just a thought!

We had Sonny Bryan's cater our RH for 50 ppl and with the full service option of the additional $125 it was very reasonable. They can come anywhere you want; we had ours in the Church gathering hall. I really wanted to feed our OOT guests some yummy Texas BBQ, and everyone loved it. We bought cacti for table decor and had red checkered picnic tablecloths...very casual and fun!
The total amount was less than $750 and it included choices of 2 meats, beans, potato salad, cole slaw, iced tea and cookies. We upgraded to have cobbler, which was an additional $1/pp. The 2 meat option is $10.99/pp, one meat is $9.99/pp and 3 meats is $11.99.
    HTH!

You are getting married at Event 1013, right? In that area you might check out Jorg's or Zanata, although they might be a little expensive. They would definitely give you a unique experience. Urban Crust might be good, too, but I don't think they have space for a crowd that big.

Outside of downtown Plano but not terribly far away there is a Spaghetti Warehouse, and then just up 75 there are tons of restaurants you could check out (including a Spring Creek BBQ, I think).

There's also Love and War in Texas at Plano Pkwy and 75.

One of the quotes I got was from Bucca Di Beppo which is family style dining and the beginning package is $25 per person, realistically we could all go eat there and order from the menu and pay way less than that. I thought it was a bit ridiculous for IN restaurant pricing. and that does not include gratuity obviously.

I should also add that typically in my family for rehearsal dinners we just do back yard BBQ style and its very relaxed. The reason we are doing a restaurant is bc our venue is about an hour away from where we are living and all of our guests are primarily from OOT. I want something where there is room for people to mingle and not be stuffed into a corner! FMIL has gererously offered to pay and she said that she things $500-$600 is fair but that if its more thats ok. I just really really don't want to go over budget as I think its rude when someone else is offering to pay.

Has she given any suggestions for where they would like to have it? If the pricing that you are getting consistently exceeds the $500-$600 budget, it may be good for her to be involved just so that she can see first hand what she is up against.

have you tried olive garden? they have alot of family styled food that are fairly priced. maggianos is pretty good too because their food is extremely large portioned.

Whiskey cake is pretty good, like Courtney suggested, but it's not the best priced. and honestly after going there numerous times the only thing me, and 5 other people only enjoyed the alcoholic drinks and the whiskey cake, everything else was more or less sub par. (which i would go there just for the cake....mmmmmm)

fireside pies is a tad pricey, but i think if you do pizzas and salads its actually decently priced. their sangria is amazing as well, and the resturant is adorable.

Try Love & War in Texas--they have an awesome banquet room and I think their menu is reasonable

There is an italian restaurant in Plano called Cafe Amore that we looked into and really considered before going with Dave and Busters. It is definitely more casual dining and they have a cute little area upstairs that would be great for a party your size. They have group menus starting at 15pp for drinks, salad, entree, and dessert. Also, it is BYOB so you can bring your own wine if you want.

Everyone is from OOT, including FMIL. She is in CA and does not know the first thing about the area, not has she ever planned a large event and she eloped in Vegas when she was first married when she was18 so she has never planned a wedding or anything to do with one. I know that I can do it within her budget its just a matter of finding a place to do it. I think I have found some good suggestions on here through from you girls which is what I was looking for. It just seemed odd to me that I have found caterers to come do an event for me for less than what I have been able to find for a rehearsal dinner at a restaurant.

He is crazy. It is delicious. My FI is really picky, too. We always make our own with goat cheese, grilled chicken, and portabella mushrooms. Mmmmmm. =)

I second Cafe Amore in Plano - that would be a good and reasonable choice.
