New Here and an off the wall "theme"

Hi ladies!

I am brand new to this board.  I have been on the other side for a couple of years helping others plan their weddings.  Needless to say, I have sort of gone through a new theme/idea/inspiration more than once being a wedding planner.  And I must say I am stumped with my thoughts for my own nuptials.  We are sort of up in the air right now due to his pharmacy school schedule, but we are thinking either late summer/early fall next year.  Okay...are you ready for my ideas...

Think 1920s/1930s adventure meets Indiana Jones meets The Mummy minus the creepiness.  When I told my fiance about this, he totally got it and loves it.  Of course, he also wants to live in a zepplin.  I can't imagine explaing this to anyone else and them understanding, so I thought I would try this board because I love so many of your alls profiles and the thoughts/ideas you share.

So can you help out a newbie?  You would think of all the weddings I have planned, I would know where to start, but I really don't.  I have some things swirling around in my head right:
- old books
- old maps and/or globes
- think adventure/traveling
- zepplin... because my fiance is fascinated by them
- vintage luggage
- brown/tan/cream/gold colors
- tents

I am worried it's going to get too "themey".  My fiance was joking around and started saying our cake could look like the Ark of the Convenant and we could have the theme music from Indiana Jones playing.  Haha, not so much.  I guess I am looking for old world romance?  We both love the 1920s/30s era.

Any more suggestions, places to start, ideas, anything...  I would appreciate it!  And I look forward to getting to you know all more.

i would do the map thing, you could use these little globes as center peices with votive candles

maybe use a cute trunk for a card box

then keep the details elegant and thirties, like your dress, hair, his suite. maybe do a traditional 30's white wedding cake, but an indiana jones grooms cake, I think your idea is awesome! with themes just remember less is more

    Dizzinea,

Thanks!  I will certainly check those sites out.  I appreciate it.  Yeah, I also thought Australia! (the movie) sort of captures that feel too.  I tried to use Google.  I feel like I should have a million things ready to go with all my resources, haha.  It's funny how being on the other side of things is different.  Plus, I am not like other brides I have planned for.  The majority have gone more with a color scheme instead of a "theme".  And I for sure agree that less is more!  I certainly don't want it to become a costume party or looks like it is out of a movie set.  Which is totally fine for some, but I want that understated elegance.

    Thanks for suggestions :)

I've seen people with vintage travel themes incorporate a lot of vintage postcards and luggage tags. They'll use them for table numbers, escort cards, and favors.

What about the Rocketeer?  That screams both Zepplin and that kind of 1930's stuff.  They have that fantastic party scene- might be something to consider checking.

I think vintage travel would be an awesome theme. Maps, suitcases, passports, galore! I do think that Indiana Jones turns it from a classy cool idea to cheesy though, unless you just incorporated it in the Groom's cake or something. (and this is coming from an archaeologist, fyi)

I have a vintage travel theme and we are hosting hte reception in an old train station. We used vintage postcards as our save the date. There are a lot of map type papers at the hobby stores that you can incorporate. I love the idea of old globes, messages in bottles, scavenger hunts types of ideas.  Have fun with it!

Don't forget old airmail letters and postage stamps!  I think this theme is bitchin'.  You can have so much fun with it, and there's so much out there for you to work with!

Great theme!  Please post pictures to keep us updated along the way. Laughing
