selling info...

Have any of you had a problem with vendors or venues you've looked into selling your info to other vendors and venues?!  I've gotten information from DJ's and a catering hall in Rockland (which I've never even heard of).  How did you nip it in the bud?

have you ever gone to a bridal show and put your name down for something?.If so thats probably where they got your info from.

I've done nothing like that.  I've been to one bridal shop, and one DJ.  for me its either gotta be the venues I've looked at, or the knot... (and I've never requested more info on here, I haven't really made it as far as vendors yet)

Then it may be from the knot. Or are you subscribed to any bridal magazines? I used to get a bunch of those but now they have slowed down.

I'm with you! I get so much bridal spam now. For every three lists I unsubscribe from, five more seem to get my name!

Heads up about contests, FYI. I've learned the hard way that all those "win a free XYZ" legitimate looking contests on legitimate sites are really just for harvesting the names of brides and selling to third parties.

All this spam...I feel like I've earned my free wedding dress by now--contests or no!

    Cheers,

Any bridal website you are signed up for sells your name to vendors.

I had the same problem-I am pretty sure that The Knot sells your address to vendors, but after I signed up with The Knot (for real and not just playing around lol) I got a lot of mail in my actual mail box. Then, a few months later I register for a brial show and I'm supposed to go with my mom but the night was rainy and nasty and when she came by to pick me up I said let's skip it and go for coffee. The next day, week, months, etc. I got calls, e-mails, regular mail. I was so annoyed because I was so tired of getting phone calls and emails where the person said "Hi Jennifer it was so nice to meet you the other night." I also won a few contests too apparently. I called up Everything Bridal who was running the show and spoke to the owner of the company and told him I was upset that there was no disclosure on the website that said my information would be sold to vendors and he said he would change the website to reflect that. That was nine months ago and they never updated their site. I don't mind the snail mail so much cuz it goes right to the recycling but the e-mails and phone calls are annoying!
