Wedding Confessional Monday!

Confession time! Let out whatever has been bugging or concerned you about wedding planning which you haven't told anyone about.

Re: Wedding Confessional Monday!

  • Almost every night for the past week I have been having nightmares about my dress not fitting. I'm cursing myself for listening to the bridal consultant rather then listening to my instincts and ordered the size 6 rather than the 8. I have a month and half before my first fitting!
  • keep working hard and eating right!! you can do it!!! I had a dream last night that I lost my diamond, as in it fell out of my ring!!! so scary!! I woke up in a panic and felt for my diamond...hope this is not the beginning of the dreaded wedding nightmares!!

  • I've just been so torn...should I or shouldn't I get a videographer.  I was so not going to have one, but now I think I am...and now I want cocktail hour entertainment, lol!  What the heck is going on? ..I thought I was pretty much "all set" - yeah, right!
I think I'm driving myself nuts!!

I was in the same position as you...didn't want videographer at all until I saw my 15's video. It was a crappy video (no lie!) but the memories came back just watching it. I laughted and cried a lot during the video because of happiness and nostalgia of seeing my 15's party. My decision on not having a videographer changed so now we are looking for one :) I would say go for it and skip cocktail entertainment.

You are right!  I started to read posts of past brides who said the same thing about the wedding video - how the videos captured moments and emotions that they had missed or forgotten about on the wedding day.  I'm still contemplating the entertainment...I just want something sorta different, so that when people leave the wedding they feel it was a nice touch.  We'll see!

Ok so, last friday i purchased my dress. Id been to two appointments at other stores previously and didnt really see anything.

So last friday i went to the appointment and showed the girl some pictures of dress styles i like. She brought out three, two of which i immediately said i didnt like, but tried on the third, i just found it to be a bit too "bling" as in it has some sequins and beads, the girl said it will help to make the dress stand out more, bring out the lace and it wont be all that noticeable from a distance, but it will give it something extra in photos etc and i understood what she meant and agreed.

It had both aspects of a dress that i wanted, lace and tulle/soft netting. Just not necessarily in the way i had imagined from looking at so many online, i thought i wanted something more flowing.

Anyway at the moment of trying it on, i really liked it and ended up saying yes i want this dress! and bought it right there and then. Then after leaving literally 10 minutes after i was having doubts!

I keep thinking i should have asked to see more or at least slept on it and gone back. I honestly think if i had slept on it i wouldnt have gone back and purchased it. I just got caught up in the moment.

I keep arguing both sides in my mind. About how its not exactly the style i wanted, but then i think, i tried on a more flowy dress which was the style i was imagining, an empire waist dress at one of the previous stores and decided i didnt like it.

And every time i look at the picture of my dress i like the way it looks. But then i cant imagine it fitting around all the ideas i have for the wedding already. I cant even think of what accessories will go with it.

I dont even know what this post is, i just think i needed to write it down maybe get some advice or feedback. Though i know its done now and i just have to deal with it.

this is the dress by the way

sorry for the long moaning post!!

  • The dress is stunning.  I know it's a matter of tastes, but I think it's just gorgeous and perfect on your figure.  Try it with your favorite veil and see if you feel differently.

LOVE your dress! I love everything about it especially the lace. I think it's a great dress for your English tea garden wedding. Not too blingy at all. My only recommendation to you is to remember how you felt when you first tried on the dress. If you remember feeling beautiful then it's a winner and do not look at more dresses....it will create dress doubt.

A little side note: I found my dress on my second dress appointment. My mom and I pulled out the dress (and we pulled many different styles) and it was the second dress I tried during that appointment. You know when you know :)
  • I also think the dress is and looks amazing!  I love the satin belt and the way the bottom flows.

With my gown, it was the same as Mademoiselle- second dress appt. and when I put it on, I could not stop smiling and Mom immediately started crying.  Like you said, "You know when you know" and that's so true.

  • Thanks guys! Youre all so nice. Mademoiselle and dorky, the fact you both bought at the second appointment is making me feel better.

I think what i need to do is just go back and try it on again and take some better pictures.
Im also thinking maybe i want to add straps?!

I didn't purchase the dress on my second appointment because I was still over a year away from my wedding. I didn't buy the dress because the bridal consultant who helped me out convinced me to wait a bit longer just because my wedding date was way far out. I did go back to the bridal shop by myself to try on my dress with some others and still my dress was the best. I always went back to it....how it looked, how I felt in it, and the feeling I got when I tried on the dress "I'm a bride!". Like I said, you know when you know, and when I finally reached the one year mark I purchased the dress. I didn't even get to try it again when I went in to buy it because they sold the sample but I made the order anyway. I tried on my dress earlier this month and I felt so beautiful! My only regret was not buying it any sooner :)

Try on the dress again and take better pics to see if you like everything about it and how you feel in it. Keep us posted, missy!

Mademoiselle,  I am thinking about a acoustic guitarist and percussionist duo that I saw online.  They sound great and I think they would add a little flair to my party.  Still thinking about THAT, but...I got the videographer!  Bobby Doyle from Doyle Video Productions.  Got a great price on 5 hour coverage, documentary editing and one DVD.  So excited!

  • We too wanted something different for the cocktail hour so we hired this guitarrist:
    http://www.gigmasters.com/Classical-Guitar/MayBarreto/
and just hired the DJ for less hours.

BEST spent $200 ever.....guy was awesome and everyone loved how different it was. :)

    HTH!
  • I bought my dress on like my 3rd appointment and I bought it for two reasons, it was a Maggie Sottero on sale for $100, and it made me feel like a queen. Because of the style of the dress I had to change my whole look for the wedding. And up until  my first alterations appointment, 6 weeks before the wedding I was having 2nd and 3rd and 4th thoughts on it feeling like I bought it for the wrong reasons. Anyway, it turned out PERFECT! I got so many compliments on my dress and I felt amazing in it. All this to say that no matter what your thoughts are now on the dress like PP said think back to the moment you bought it and how you felt. And trust your instincts on it, it's a beautiful dress and you look amazing in it! Good Luck!
