Wedding Woes

So, who plans on cooking for TG?

It's slow around these parts today.

Re: So, who plans on cooking for TG?

  • We're hosting my mom and a couple of friends might stop in.

We're making turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie, roasted cauliflower, pan roasted radishes, chocolate peanut butter cake, smashed sweet and regular potatoes (I mix them together), and my mom is making her stuffing. Oh and gravy.
  • I'm the only one in my house that eats thanksgiving-y food, so I think I might just roast a chicken and make myself some Stove Top Stuffing and Hungry Jack Instant Mashed Potatoes.  And pumpkin pie for sure.
I'm typically in South Carolina for Thanksgiving but this year got all messed up and I'm staying home.  (Although I am on vacation this week-woohoo!!) So I'm not used to being home for Thanksgiving.
  • DH and I are cooking as normal.

Mom got DH a Belgian waffle maker for his bday, b/c he loves them.  Then casually suggested we do a Belgian waffle bar for TG.  'Cause she loves them too.  So, we'll have gingerbread, cheese and chives and a chocolate chip waffles and some sort of egg thing she's making.  Maybe bacon as well.  Easy, fast and easy cleanup.
  • Varuna - want my candied bacon recipe?
  • Belgain waffle bar???   That is an excellent idea!   Maybe I'll do that for the 3 of us while we watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.   Yummmmm.
  • We'll be cooking, but considering it's most likely me, DH, and DD, we're not going to go overboard. Nixing stuffing this year. Nobody's obsessed over it and it's a tremendous PITA. That's my concession for actually baking a turkey this year.

  • i am. parents are in town.
making turkey (i put it in the brine this morning), cranberry sauce, stuffing, scalloped potatoes, roasted acorn squash with chile lime vinegrette, and peas/carrots. brownies or ice cream for dessert.
  • Not I.  Going to MIL/FIL's for dinner and heading to my parents for dessert.

I'm hoping one day that I will have a house big enough to host a holiday for the fam.   We currently have the smallest one out of everyone.  It's a blessing and a curse.
  • I already made pumpkin bread.
pumpkin roll and cranberry sauce and I"m done.

oh, and dont' forget giant family meeting.  *eyeroll*
  • We're headed to my family in the woods.  I'm doing pumpkin soup for Wed night and cookies for Thursday.  We'll be there early enough Wed to help with the prep.

AF- You're welcome to join us.  Nobody would notice in the crowd of  60+.  Shoot, my BIL's sister and brother fly in from out of state to spend the time there instead of hitting Cleveland with their own mom.
  • Thanks 6!  We have a few places we could go, but since I'm the only one who eats any of it, it would just be annoying to go somewhere and worry about what DH and DD would eat - even though it's their problem, not mine - I still can't help but make it my problem.   :)
  • Yeah, Mom got tired of cooking about five years ago, so I took it over.  It took about 2, maybe 3 years, before I was done with turkey.  None of us really like it that much, so it was always just a giant PITA.  So, we tend to do really non-traditional.  So far, the Indian food Thanksgiving has been the most popular (chicken tikki masala, naan, some great raitas and a great cucumber salad), but I think Belgian waffles might win out over that.

Dharma, you must work.  LIttle bunny has to wear Star Trek, hubby has to play self-composed music and you...well, you tell me about the science of my food.  ;)

Dixie, is it actually sweet?  I was thinking of adding the bacon just so we had something to cut through all of the sweetness of the waffles.  But really, in general, yes, you can share the candied bacon recipe.  :D
  • we're avoiding my family, so i plan to cook over at my IL's. i am really looking forward to it. i am disappointed we don't have the room to host this year because it was a success last year, but eventually we'll be like legit grown ups.
  • I'm going to Zzilla's next year!
  • All this cooking sounds really good. I'm bringing drinks and a pie.

  • Not I.

I'm headed to my aunt's for TG supper.  We'll have all the traditional stuff:  Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, salads, rolls and pie.  Added to the food will be all matter of ultra conservative political discussion among 2 of my uncles.  I'm sure it will be hot and heavy with the recent elections.  My H will be working and could have changed his hours so he'd be done to go, but hates the uncle's discussion, so he's working his reg shift.  I just choose not to participate in the discussion and go hang with my nephew if it gets overbearing.

  • I'll be cooking- I do it all because I don't want anyone's sh!tty contributions. So we'll have turkey a s ham, stuffing, potatoes- mashed and sweet, green beans, rolls, pumpkin cheesecake, apple pie, and who knows what else.
  • pmeg, that is pretty much why i like to cook. H and I like my cooking so i want to try and do as much as i could. plus, i like the GTG part of the meal.
  • Its mostly DHs family (my sister is coming) and they all suck at cooking. I told them to just bring drinks. Seriously, I want good leftovers. I don't want weird contributions that are going to sit in my fridge uneaten.
  • I'm making cranberry salad and a pie of my choosing (well, I'm supposed to, I've been working about 14 hours/day, so I don't know when I'm supposed to squeeze this in) and bringing it to my parents' house in MO.
